| soce05-14-06, 08:45 PM | Hi guys, I am brand new to both this forum and the whole game. I have just recently taken interest because I have a cousin who is into this game. He lent me his books to look over and come up with a character. My goal is to create one super tough barbarian that will be an awesome front man for any crew to play with. I have no idea though if I am cheating or in the rules of the game. Any help/comments would be GREAT. Here is my idea so far. My character will be the offspring of a Dragon and a Fire Giant who contracted lycanthrope (Dire WereTiger) thus creating a Natural Fire Giant Dire WereTiger Half-Dragon. From my understanding I will have the following bonus stats from such a creature when in hybrid form. Str +40 Dex +8 Con +16 Int +2 Wis +4 Cha +2 ECL +10 My character will be of Large size when not in hybrid mode and Huge when in hybrid mode. My character will be immune to fire and vulnerable to cold from the firegiant. However I plan on picking a dragon that will give me Cold Immune making me both fire and cold immune with wings (due to size). I should have HUGE AC with all my natural bonuses. I plan on being a barbarian/prestige class: Bloodscaled Fury. I think he will ROCK if this is not cheating. When/if you help me know this. I want to make a super powerful character but I don't want to cheat the game. I will stop here and get input/comments. Am I doing this right? My goal is to make one bad MOFO who can tear stuff up. Please guide me. Thanks |

Sounds pretty cool though, id go ahead and make it a half white dragon if your looking to cheese out you character to that extent. Personally id just make him a half red to go with the theme... you know fire giant (red) red dragon (red...duh) and were tiger (orange... close enough to red) I recon he'd look pretty damn awsome... not something id mess with. Half red (fire giant) and half white (white dragon).... Now to the OP. This is your first character, in your first game. Do you have any clue about what level this game is going to be? 'Cause let me tell you right now, with the LA (level adjustment) for such a character you propose, you'd need a high level game for it. fire giant LA +4 half dragon LA +3 Afflicted lycantrope LA +2 Probably another few levels worth of LA I've missed somewhere. It all means that if the rest of them start at level 11-15 somewhere. Your characters is going to start at level 1, ten levels or more below everyone else to make up for the LA. And really it doesn't matter much how many bonuses you get from your half-this-half-that-with-extra-template, cause they're going to whop your behind and hand it back to you on a plate with that sort of LA. :( A level 1 outlandish build with huge LA just does not measure up to a level 10-15 range LA +0 race. Plus of course if you want a prestige class... well then we're talking about it'd have to be a game that starts on epic levels as generally it takes about 5 levels to get the pre-recs. Plus does the DM even allow such outlandish critters? A good portion of DMs out there just won't have them in their game, especially not, I'm afraid, played by new players. But yes, heed over to the CharOp if you're looking for ideas on how to make the most kick ass (in regards to 'power') character. :P |
| Morka05-15-06, 09:41 AM | The only way to be half-dragon and lycanthrope is to be a natural lycanthrope. The template becomes inherited, so you could say one of your parents was a were-tiger giant, and the other parent was a dragon. The LA for a natural lycanthrope becomes +3, and you have to add 6 HD of tiger in top of that. Only the Fire Giant is 15 HD, +4 LA, making it a level 19 Equivalent Character Level. With the were-tiger template, you become ECL 28. And with the half-dragon template, ECL 31. If it is your very first character, I would recommend you to start simple: a human fighter. |
| geekling05-15-06, 11:04 AM | Blimey! I knew I was a few levels off... but twenty plus! for nothing bothering to look it up. :) No wonder I don't go anything more exotic than LA +1. Thank you morka. |
| kubelick05-28-06, 03:07 PM | man, i played a lg boring paladin for my first character. great balls of fire (no pun inteded!) and »yes«, i wouldn't mess with him either, with a +40 str i'd tried to talk my way out of it. or take that cyanide pill asap to forego any bloodsheding. eager to hear how it developed. kvk If it is your very first character, I would recommend you to start simple: a human fighter." p.s. morka, my feelings exactly! |

| Tramp4life05-29-06, 04:07 PM | c'mon, this has GOT to be a Troll thread! LOL... If you want a good 1st level barbarian, take 1/2 giant with a big axe or club. Or, take a 1/2 orc--grab the monkey grip feat, and get a really, REALLY freaking big axe. Do your best to hit things a lot. Power attack is a good feat, as well as cleave if you don't take monkey grip. Oh yeah, foam at the mouth a lot (in character) and threaten to hurt things. That is all. |
