My gnome is an illusionist mage. I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for another class i should take to make him a better character. I dont want to take rogue since my group already has a good rogue, so i need some advice. I thought of taking some fighter to make him more competent when he cant use his magic, then again i have no clue what would work.

Perhaps one level of fighter (a bonus feat) or ranger (some useful skills). You will then be able to take the Eldritch Knight PrC.

Unless you don't trust your party to protect you from direct attacks, it would be good to concentrate on wizard class, eventually you will get Tenser Transformation that transform you into a fighter. There are prestige classes that preserve your casting progression, but with d6 or d8 for hit dices, like Divine Oracle or Sacred Exorcist.

Nah, I'd go with Cleric and use domains of trickery and luck. You'll get better BAB out of it, plus it compliments your illusionist.

[Edit: He'll be well protected. I'm the party rogue, and, if I remember correctly, we have a barbarian and a ranger. ]

Maybe a few levels of sorcerer? You wouldn't get more powerful spells, but you'd get more/day.

why dont you just stay pure illusionist and take some skill's on the side i mean its not very usefull to get another class but you could really build some personality by using the skillpoints you get because of a high int (you an illusionist so you should have a hight int) you could take some knowledge skill or something yust to make you char a little bit more collourfull

Shadowcrafter (from the Underdark book) offers some nice synergies. It'll make all of your illusions better and some of your skills too. You only be forfeiting those bonus wizard feats by adopting the Prestige Class.

It makes for a nice, dark gnome illusionist.
