| Kinkyjutsu02-04-06, 03:39 AM | How would being morbidly obese affect a char? |
| Bazcasta02-04-06, 04:11 AM | Stat wise: lower dex (possibly) and lower cha (for the socail part [if it is a non-obese culutre]) skill wise: maybe -1/2 to hide, tumble, ride, balance, enduarce checks, possibly some others. maybe even a penatly to movement rate? I don't think a penalty to AC would be appropriate, though, it would be a pretty big hit if you ask me. These are just a few mechanics, there could also be roleplay problems too. |
| JulesCARV02-04-06, 05:31 AM | Well, here's the UA take. This is just for garden-variety overweight, though, not morbidly obese: Stout You are heavy for your race. Benefit You gain a +2 bonus on Strength checks to avoid being bull rushed or overrun. Drawback You take a -1 penalty on Escape Artist checks. Roleplaying Ideas Overweight characters are often bullied, so those with this trait might be shy, or they might be very defensive when faced with such situations. Some turn to humor to defuse such situations, while others become bitter. |
| erbmjw02-04-06, 02:02 PM | It also depends on your height - a 6'6" obese person is not bullied as much as a 5'2' obese person. I have cousins that have proportional builds with those height differences - the short obese guy was bullied a great deal whereas the tall obese guy was not bullied any where nearly as often - most people are not concerned about annoying a pug dog but annoying an elephant is just not a good idea. So are you short and obese - medium height and obese - or just all around huge? |
| Branto02-07-06, 09:41 AM | Well, if you're actually morbidly obese... as in, a half ton pile of blubber and rolls of fat.. then you'd have a pretty tough time leaving your house in the first place ;) Such a character would need magical or mechanical assistance to even move, and even then would likely suffer huge penalties to many things. Oh, and at that point you could forget the penalties to escape artist and hide and dodging.. you wouldn't be able to do those things at all, considerring you could barely move. You'd also probably die of a heart attack well before you finish the first dungeon. Should I assume that you don't in fact mean morbidly obese, and are rather talking along the size of a 300-400 pound normal human, or the equivelant in other races? |

The term morbid obesity refers to patients who are 50 - 100% -- or 100 pounds above -- their ideal body weight. Alternatively, a BMI (body mass index) value greater than 39 may be used to diagnose morbid obesity. So, the OP may well be talking along the size of a 300-400 pound normal human and being correct in useage of the term morbidly obese. |
