A line of silver buttons fun from both shoulders to hips, what can be seen of his legs are clothes in dark pants, with dtufy boots. A sash encirlces his waist and through this red fabric a masterfully crafted rapier is stuck. His gloves hands rest on the hilt of the weapon as he watches you. Shoulder length black hair frames his face, and his features are striking. Silvery grey orbs peer out at the world from under dark brows, and a smile dances across his lips. Below his mouth is a small pointed beard. Background: As with many in the ruthless land of Calimshan, Braden didnt know his parents. His first memories are hunger and fear. Those thoughts went on for many years in the small poor prphanage that he grew up in, it was on the outskirts of Memnon, and was mostly filled with those cast off bastard children of the navy. Even as a child, he showed a remarkable talent for making friends and for getting into trouble. Mostly the later was the cause of the former, he had the habit of filching a few copper here and there from merchants in town and then buying food for some of the other orphans. It turns out that not every merchant is so forgiving to let those coppers go, especially when they became silvers or golds. But as Bredan made more friend it took more and more money to keep them all eating. He was maybe twelve or thirteen when he was taken. At first he thought they were taking him to the gaurd station but they passed it and headed to the docks. He was puzzled but not all that worried, he never seemed to be worried. The man leadign their small group said something about Braden making back the money he had stolen and this just confused him more. It turned out the man was not of the highest moral fiber and in turn knew others of even less. He sold the poor boy into slavery to a captian of a "Merchant" ship. Once the ship had left dock, the young boy learned what he had been sold to do. He worked at simple jobs at first, cleaning, peeling potatoes that kind of thing. But it wasnt long before they had him climbing the riggings to do jobs no one else wanted to do, or rowing. He learned quite a bit about sailing in the process but never let on. That decision in the end was what saved his life. Karma is a mean lady when she wants to be and that was the case for the men who had enslaved him. Having been working for many years under their "care", Braden had picked up more skills, mostly those with a blade. At night in the few hours that they let him alone, he practiced with a mop handle. This also proved quite helpfull on the day that his freedom came. One of the traits from his childhood that carried over to his time on the ship was the ability to make friends rather quickly, and his willingness to help out any of the other captives, as he wasnt the only one. When one of the crew tripped in the hold of the ship, he dropped the key to the slaves chains. Luck would have it that Braden was the one near by and quickly snatched up the key and hide it before the gaurd even knew it was gone. As night fell, Braden used the key to open his chains and those of the other slaves. His kindness was repayed and they followed his lead in takeing the ship. Most fo the sailors were captured with out much of a fight, but the captian wouldnt back down and drew a sword to strike down Braden. Snatching a blade from on of the captured men, he fought for his life and won it. As the body of the old captian fell over the side, sliding beneath the waves leaving only a few bubbles and a red smear that was quickly washed away, Braden was hailed as the new leader. This was not what he wanted, in fact he couldnt stand the idea of spending another moment on this ship then he had too. So he put one of his closest friends in charge of the ship, and had them drop him off at the first port they could get too. With solid ground under his feet again he made his way back home to Calimshan. And once again he it didnt take him long to find trouble. He had gone back to his thieving ways and soon found himself with a one way ticket out of the country. Having lost his only real home and still wanting to make money to keep the kids in food, he turned to adventureing, living by the sword and his wits. Sending money and carepackages back every so often, he is trying to do good for others now. Personality: Appearing to be carefree and happy go lucky is the thing that most people think of when they talk about Braden. It is true for the most part, but alot of other things facotr into his personality. At his core he is a careing man who will do just about anything to help out those that need it. Slay a dragon to feed a family, ok. Topple a king to save the slaves, why not? But he doesnt run in half cocked or with out a plan, alot of thinking goes into his actions it is just that trouble seems to follow him, but it hasnt caught him yet. By sheer wits and charm he has made it through most things and that has left him rather carefree even if he is running from the law or an angry monster |

| Chrono Nexus02-08-07, 10:34 PM | Nice. But what is motivating him to be help others? And it seems odd to me that he went from being a slave under some pirates to being their best mate- wouldn't some of his anger and resentment carry over? As for his parents- talk to your dm about fitting them into the story somehow. Perhaps they are royals, and you are the future pirate/king of the realm... or maybe they shared a similar fate, and became slaves (good reason to seek them out). This character has great potential, but every REALLY memorable character has a catchphrase/habit that identifies them from all others. A few ideas: 1. He always has to slap the archway of a door before entering. 2. He often will absentmindedly pull out a random item (heirloom perhaps) and twiddle or stare at it like he is trying to concentrate or remember something. 3. He plays a musical instrument (possibly well) and spends his time during journeys entertaining his friends. 4. He has a magic water skin that will turn up to 4 gallons of water a day into ale. 5. He doesn't like to be touched. If touched, he yells out, "BAD TOUCH!!!" and proceeds to quiver in a corner. 6. He has two peg legs. Neither really inhibits his movement in either way, it's just really frikkin wierd. 7. One of his eyes is a different and unusual color. 8. He has a pirating name, based on his appearance, "Strongarm, Goldmaw, Hooktongue, Braden the Vile, Braden Bugbeater" for example. 9. He has a twin sister, but he doesn't know where or who she is. 10. He carries around a great sword, not because he uses it, but because it's a big dangerous looking sword. And only really strong opponents wield them;) |

Well the pirates were outnumbered by the slaves ont he ship so it was play nice or share the fate of the captian. It was the other slaves who tried to make him the leader, since he had just freed them As for his parents- talk to your dm about fitting them into the story somehow. Perhaps they are royals, and you are the future pirate/king of the realm... or maybe they shared a similar fate, and became slaves (good reason to seek them out). He doesnt know who they were, as he was just one of the children left parentless ater a attack of gobliniods. That is the reason he has taken to adopting the other orphans as his new family This character has great potential, but every REALLY memorable character has a catchphrase/habit that identifies them from all others.
