I made up a character earlier today, a 1/2 Rogue Paladin named Nanuk The Ambergris. Basically, he's an eskimo. Ugly stereotypes aside, I made him to prove to a buddy that Paladins aren't always Plate Mail/Sword/Shield bland idiots who can't think outside their own stereotype. In fact, stop, and think. Have you EVER seen a Paladin in fantasy literature? No, they're all rangers and rogues as main characters. Anyway, I gave him a Heavy Crossbow, a Falchion, dagger, and Rapier, since I thought he would be amazed at the weaponry of "civilization". Anything else you think I should do with him to emphasise those points?

Once you take any level in any other class you loose all your pali skills, so unless your DM isn't ignoring that part of a pali I'd rethink your character.

No you don't. If you take another class, you just can't gain more levels in Paladin again. You only lose abilities if you violate the Code, become Chaotic, or preform an evil act.

And I started as a Rogue, for the Skill bonuses.

I think it's a great idea. All the paladins I've ever had the misfortune to encounter were the gleaming plate, longsword, two-pieces-of-the-rod-of-seven-parts-in-their-back-end-cavity jerks. It's good to see someone challenging the stereotypes.

And you're right on the rules. You can't change classes after BECOMING a paladin, but it says nothing about classess BEFORE you were a paladin. Just out of curiosity, how does a rogue become lawful good?

By seeing the light from a missionary sent to his far off northern village, of course. Plus Rogues can be any alignment.

By being Lawful Good..? There's nothing that says that a Rogue is limited in alignment, and more than half of the Rogues I have seen played were not and had never been thieves.

Sorry, sorry, if I offended anyone, sorry. But every rogue I've played with has been chaotic, or at least neutral. Isn't the very definition of "rogue" someone who is outside of mainstream society? I've always seen rogues as free-spirits, with a general unwillingness to be constrained by "petty laws". That is, admittedly, just my take on it, although one must admit that it is a bit of a leap from rogue to paladin (I'm not saying it's unreasonable, I'm saying it deserves an explanation.)

Up in his northern village, he was a sneaky bully who did everything he could to steal food, supplies, whatever he wanted. (Sneaky instead of strong because the village hunters could have wailed on his ass). That is, until a missionary came to his village, spreading the word of the Gods. The missionary saw the Calling in Nanuk, and took him back to civilization to help him harness his abilities. The tales of life outside his frozen village and the examples and guidance of the other Paladins who trained him changed him into who he is today.
