I'm new to this forum, so here goes:

I've just rolled up a Dread Necromancer for a campaign some friends and I will be starting in a couple weeks. I was wondering if anyone has any tips for my character's personality quirks. Here's what I have so far:

-She is obsessed with dead things. She listens, fascinated, whenever somebody talks about coming back from the dead or even a near-death experience.
-Whenever the party finds something dead, she kneels down eagerly to inspect it and determine how long it has been dead, how it died, and what it was like in life.
-She will never tell anyone that she is a Dread Necromancer. If they ask, she's a wizard, although she makes no pretense of studying a spellbook or preparing spells. When asked what EXACTLY she just cast, she always calmly replies, "Fireball." She also calmly denies that she is turning into a lich, no matter how apparent the evidence.
-Sexy is not the word for her (I rolled four sixes! I couldn't believe it!)
-She's an easy liar.

She has maxxed out bluff, concentration, knowledge (religion), knowledge (arcana), and spellcraft.

Anyone have some more personality quirks that would make her fun to play? I also need a name and a backstory (preferably one that doesn't involve a burned village, murdered parents, or anything cliche like that).

Thanks in advance!

An interesting character.

I'd start with a less-than-talented young woman studying wizardry. She has no real patience for the intricate studies but her force of personality and beauty are such that her often-cloistered professors allow her to continue her studies despite her many failings at the art. Eventually she comes upon one professor who cares nothing for her. As far as he is concerned she is a failed student who should have long since been sent home or at least have been transferred to some more frivolous place of learning such as a bardic college. Unused to being refused she grows interested in both the man and his art. While she still has no skill at magic she sees the world in a new light following him and attending his classes. He is the sort who opens a body in front of class without reservation and his lack of tact and decorum shows her the joy of pure knowledge. Frustrated by his uncaring attitude towards her failing grades and her own inabilaty she seeks out a tutor. Someone who can show her another way of manipulating the dead. Someone who can show her how to force the world to her will rather than bending herself to its laws. Another failed student who now holds a power greater than any proffessor at her school.

I recommend the following:

Give her a pompous air and a sense of superiority. This contradicts her apparent inability to study the Art, and this leads her to believe the very system is flawed.

She is easily offended, and works to hide the anger she feels whenever she is offended. Experience has taught her to do this expertly, but insightful people would recognize the frustration.

She hates being seen as inferior. Whenever engaged with people, she wants to be recognized as the most prominent person, as she believes herself to be. Perhaps she deems anyone who doesn't feel this way as stupid.

But that might make her unlikable to the extreme, so take care. ;)

Lol, that last one was almost identical to a lich I played, except he WAS a genius, and he knew it. He held nothing but complete and utter contempt for almost everything that moved.

He and the party didn't get along so well, but the other players liked him, and he was a blast to play.
