Alright... so I am playing in an eberron campaign with my illumian dread necromancer... I was going to post this along with the original thread.. but I couldn't find it... so basically my character's home was attacked and in order to learn necromancy left his cabal to search for arcane secrets winding up in Sharn. That was about a year after the last war finished.
Well my friend said that he wanted his character to know my character before the campaign started. He's a changeling swordsage and I'm trying to figure out why an illumian necromancer would be traveling with a changeling swordperson...
His backstory, what I know so far he hasn't written it out yet, but he was taught by a master swordsage and somehow his master died. Since then, he has wandered and meets up with my character.
He keeps on joking about how they met skiing... but I want an actual reason why the would be traveling. They would probably have been together from anywhere close to a year to about two months... but my brain isn't coming up with any good ideas... so I request your help.
My character: Cha 16, Int 14, Wis 12 -quite reserved, and polite, but critical of others who do foolish things
His Character: Int 14, Wis 12, Cha 7 - (from what I Recall his character is smart but doesn't really... have any tact whatsoever. He often says some very... interesting things... "Can I smell your feet?" and... telling a waitress in a pretty classy tavern "More ale, wench")

A swordsage values the person before the profession, though they do resent spellcasters that alter the battlefield through area spells and whatnot. Perhaps he values your companionship simply because you were polite to him?

many swordsages travel the land for the purpose of improving their skills with their weapons. it seems to me that a dread necro can provide "training dummies" that can provide a decent fight and are easily repaired (charnel touch) they can also be called off by the DN at a moments notice.

well, that could be a reason for the swordsage to travel with the DN, now for a reason for the DN to travel with the swordsage.

This one's easier, DNs, while a heck of a lot more durable than most mages still don't belong in melee and a shadow hand / setting sun swordsage can take battlefield control to a really good level.

Note, while swordsages resent mages who use area denial spells that interfere with the actions of the swordsage, I'd imagine that if they shared a set of spellguard rings rendering the swordsage immune to the DNs magic the swordsage would quite gleefully stand behind a wall of force that they can dart through at will. (just an example.)

Polite at Cha7?! Maybe they met before they specialized into magic? I wonder if there is a magic elementary school to teach the basics of magic (how to run away from explosions, the paths of magic, etc.) before specializing. Or they could have been on the same side durring a war (possibly one saving the others life).

To TheWyrmDude: Yeah... I guess that would be plausible, I will take that into the count when deciding what circumstances the characters met.

Rathmun: Hmm... Training Dummies... Semi-meatshield... Well... hmm... Illumians love mastering their opponents... maybe they would team up in fights and find the most effective way to totally outsmart them, each learning how to use their skills together...

NerdNumber1: They would have to meet while wandering.... My character learned only the basics of necromancy (hence the 1st level) and left to learn more. His character's master died and whe just went from place to place.... Also it was the swordsage cha 7, my dn is cha 16.. so the ss liked the dn because the dn was polite to the ss ^^

Thank you all for your input I'm starting to get more of an idea of how to work it
