| INeedNoSalt03-21-07, 06:04 PM | So uh, I'm not sure entirely how to go about writing this post so I figure I will do so in a way that gets across most of the important information that will lead to my eventual question. So. Here (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=12983) is the character. She is a member of this subculture: Raz[e/o]rblade (http://novoaether.pbwiki.com/Razerblade). So, that tells me (and you!) a few things. He's a Tracer - so okay, he's something along the lines of a Bounty Hunter, although that's a bit broad and also a bit incorrect - she's more like a hitman. Or woman. Whichever. We know that he's fast, aware, and dedicated to his work. We know that she probably heavily favors anarchistic ideals and free flow of information; (something that we wouldn't know from looking at these things is that he is a member of the crew that he's on because they at one time played a vital role in toppling a massive megacorp.) So, we know what she does and why he does it. I'm struggling with figuring out where she's from, primarily, and I mean that in a general sense ('Lived homelessly on a distant border planet' moreso than 'hails from London on Ancient Earth') - basically, I need some sort of backdrop for why he is who he is. Beyond that, uh, I really honestly couldn't decide whether this character worked better as a male or female. Eventually, I decided I'd never decide, I'd just look right past it and make him (or her) as gender-neutral as possibly. I have trouble picturing quite what a person who can appear equally masculine and feminine would look like, though, so I would appreciate some help with that. So, overall, I need help with: Background / Origin Appearance Thanks for your time, Character Development. :) |
| INeedNoSalt03-24-07, 02:48 PM | Not one to be scared off by a resounding silence, I forged ahead! My GM said he thought the use of alternating pronouns would get too confusing, so I bit the bullet and made Run a woman. And so, I present, Run, with background and appearance! Background Run grew up on a Frontier world, daughter to a single mother in what is best described as a slum. She lived a working life beside her mother and younger brother for the better part of her adolescent years, although Run was decidedly lazy and did whatever she could to cut corners (and, truth be told, became quite capable.) Run had a reasonable reputation among her peers before she left the slum for her criminal exploits. Run was, forcibly, taken into the mandatory armed service at the age of eighteen, although she protested sternly and fought hard against the recruiters. Here, over the course of a two month preparation procession, Run's extreme personality was gradually worn down by constant berating and endless exhaustion; like her new peers, Run was worked until she was just a shell of what she'd been. Her training was limited to expedited instruction in infantry tactics and use of a small range of personal firearms. Run first found herself in live combat less than a month after her recruit training ended, and was engaged in near-constant warfare with competing corporations for several months. Run suffered severe damage during a push into an occupied opposing village. Run caught the brunt of a frag grenade's burst, causing extensive damage to her left side and resulting in mortal damage. Her heart was penetrated by shrapnel in the explosion, and wounds caused from the initial explosion and shrapnel led to necessary amputation of her left arm. A fortunate turn of events led Run to a well-equipped military hospital at the closing of the invasion, and her heart was artificially replaced. She was called off of duty and returned to her family, all missing arms and broken spirits. Run worked odd jobs and did what she could to raise money to replace her lost arm and fund her way off the planet, and while it took a long bit of work to fund first one and then the other, Run was eventually able to catch a transport off-world. Since that time, Run has been selling her services as a combat veteran to make her way, and has only recently become a shareholder of CERRIA Corporation and joined the crew of the Joint Journey. Appearance Run is around five feet and eight inches tall, give or take a few inches depending on how she's wearing her hair, and she is well-muscled with the lithe form of a sprinter. Run has a severe appearance to match her severe personality, and the strong shape of her face and body grants her a look not unlike those of the sylfin race. Run tends towards dark colors with dayglo accents, and her hair is constantly finding itself wearing new dyes. Run generally wears rollerblades in the city and on-board the Joint Journey. ... So, now that I've got something up here in the way of background and appearance, does anyone have any thoughts of any particularly rough spots in what I've presented or any thoughts of what I might do better? |
