Need a cool weapon to complement my dervish [Archive] - Wizards Community

I am having a bit of a dilemma. I've gotten some extra credit w/ my DM and he is letting me pick up a weapon for my dervish w/o paying for it. He said I can get an equivalent of a +3 enchantment. I am looking for a unique scimitar to complement my character. I'm not really interested in the vanilla type enchantments e.g. +2, flaming.

My character is a human swashbuckler/fighter/rogue/dervish. He's very flashy, stylish, and charismatic. He definitely acts and fights like a stereotypical swashbuckler with lots of attitude, flair, and a high opinion of himself and his abilities. He's chaotic neutral.

Can you help my work out a unique weapon that will complement his style?

Thanks to all in advance...

You know... rather than the scimitar, you could try to use a pata. It's an Indian weapon that's best described as a gauntlet longsword.... instead of common into a conventional hilt, the blade is attached to a handguard that fits over the hand like a gauntlet and is gripped on the inside. Statistically, it'd pretty much be the same thing as a longsword in a locked gauntlet.

This is the best picture of one I could find.

Oh, and I would definitely recomend the flaming weapon. Nothing says "Humppa" like a spinning sword of flame.

you could always make it look really fancy and have it be merciful...

an extra 2d6 subtle damage, and it doesn't penalize you for dealing non-leathal damage with the weapon.

fits really well with the arrogent swashbuckler type; you can just picture him knocking an opponent out in a duel and saying: COME BACK WHEN YOU ARE READY!

try the parrying magic weapon ability from XPH. it gives a +1 bonus to ac, deflection i think. Actually there's a bunch of flashy weapon abilities in XPH. take a look at that.

Well, everyone does love dual scimitars.

On the other hand, maybe dual longswords, or even possibly something really weird, like a flail? can you imagine some guy spinning around at the speed of light all while whipping a ball and chain behind him?

Thundering. Nothing makes somebody remember you more than being deaf because of you.

If you want to be flashy, go with a flaming scimitar, or better, a flaming frost scimitar.

If you want to be lethal, go with a Wounding scimitar: with each successful hit, you deal 1 CON damage. And a dervish hit often.

Or you could go with a Throwing-Returning Scimitar: your last attack is against the wizard 30' away, and the next round, you scimitar is back in your hand!

Perhaps Kukri? You could have a Dervish/Weapon Master with Improved Crit, and get a crit on a 13-20, as well as having an awesome Dervish to start. :D

How about a +1 Magebane Cursespewing Glowing Scimitar?

Or a +1 Shocking Flaming Freezing Vorpal Scimitar?

how about confusing your opponent. Have a wizard cast eternal flame (or whatever the spell is called that you crush rubies and it creates a heatless fire) on your sword, and then have it enchanted with some other element. So hes expecting to be hit with fire, but instead gets hit with cold, or electricty or non-lethal. the flame spell only costs 50 gp (or something like that) so its cheap and adds a cool effect.

Best I've seen is smoking, from Lords of Darkness (FR). Gives concealment as you are circled with smoke. only +1 enchantment

Note on using scimitars: they are best with the Dervish PrC because you can use them as an off-hand weapon without the -4 penalty, just -2 as if it were light. So scimitar is the way to go.

If your character is going to be retaining his high opinion of himself and his abilities, Wrathful Healing (+3, Enemies and Allies) might help. He would feel less vulnerable in combat-considering everytime he hits someone, he is healed of half the damage he's dealt. That and he can step on the cleric's toes from time to time without too much worry.

For some flash Radiant (+2 Arms & Equipment Guide) gives of daylight at will. Explosive (+2 Complete Warrior) would provide a lot of bang, if you have high reflex saves and evasion. If showy is more your thing, I thought there was a prismatic burst enchantment somewhere, in which a random effect was manifested on your target with a critical hit, but I don't know the source or related bonus.

Also, I would like to add my voice to picking up the parrying enhancement. Dervishes are skilled with their blades, both offensively and devensively (Elaborate Parry). Parrying not only helps the latter emphasis, but it is the sole magic item I know of that grants an insight bonus to saves, and AC to boot. Since it costs +8,000GP, and not a bonus, it works out very well in the long run.

Nothing like an intelligent weapon for a flashy swashbuckler especially if the alignment of the weapon conflicts with the weilders.
