| kimura12112-10-03, 12:15 PM | my characters background is pretty set but i need a fun personality for him that can really bring him alive ..... there is a pretty balanced group although i will be the only arcane caster .... im shooting for some type of melee wizard(gish) ..... i will be taking my cater level as high as i can get it from now on ... i was traveling to cormanthor by way of the moonshae islands and lost my parents to ruffians while we were staying in waterdeep(thugs were killed so no lust for revenge) ...... i had led a bit of a sheltered and pampered life because my parents were high up the chain of elven royalty .... after they died i continued my trek alone where i picked up the swashbuckling persona ...... half way there i helped defend a town from a kobold attack and somehow absorbed a shamon spell that was cast at me(the dm wanted to give me spellfire).... upon seeing this another wizard recognized my power and potential and began teaching me the arcane arts ..... i guess i feel alone since my parents are gone but also egar to prove myself as worthy of their name because while they were alive i didnt do much ....... i really need help with a fun and definative personality for this character ..... a few people in the group are decent rpers and we have a few noobs ..... i have the most fun playing a greedy borderline crazy egomaniac( not a far stretch rping wise for me) but im open to any suggestions ..... also im not sure what spellfire will add to the rping exp ..... i might be afraid that someone may find out ...... or my ego might start to grow when i realize the power i posses...... i think the game will be a good mix of politics/story and hack and slash ...... THANKS !!! background info: moon elf swashbuckeler1/wizard1 str 14 dex18 con14 int18 wis10 might be good for roleplaying!! cha 13 relevant roleplayable social skills .... 4 ranks in diplomacy/bluff/sense motive the rest of the party knows each other better because a few lived close to each other ..... while i am a bit of an outsider ... the party incase its relevant: human barbarian: grappling specialist half elf druid (twin) half elf ranger(twin) halfling thief human cleric |

Ok, so I like some truly bizarre class combinations, but what the heck. Ok, lets see here, Str 14. Hmmm. . . A bit above average, maybe you played some sport or something when you were growing up? Training for some form of olympics in the world you are playing on? With the high dex I could see a sprinter, especially with a 14 Con. This might give you a bit of a competitive edge to the characters persona. Something that makes you say, "Well, if he can do it, why can't I?" Obviously you are smart, 18 Int will do that to a character. With an average Wisdom I would assume the character is more book smart than street smart. Then there is the 13 Cha, which is just a bit above the norm. So you would not really be rubbing that hightened intelligence in anyones face. Maybe a more open approach to others would be good here, this type of character would fit the kind and generous teacher aspect. Maybe you could befriend another party member, maybe even become their teacher. After all, there is nothing wrong with the fighter being interested in the tricks the Wizard is doing and deciding that he wants to do that to. With your Diplomacy, Bluff, and Sense Motive being at a good number for your level, then maybe you could say that the character has a distinct interest in politcs. Kind of saying that they want to know more about how the world is run, and not just how it works. Keep building this, it may help you get places in the Orders of Magic on your world. Overall the character sounds more like the kind and gentle friend that wants to help others in need. I could see a Lawful Good tag on this particular character, then again, if you go with the competetive attitude, then maybe Neutral Good would fit better. Definetly a good persona comes from this one, that is what I feel at least. |
| kimura12112-10-03, 03:18 PM | thanks for the help ........ i took swashbuckler for some flavor as well as weapon finesse and i also was gonna need a martial class to qualify for some PrC later on ..... plus i like the skills .... im not sure if i want to go lawfulgood but i can give it a try ...... im more concerned with personality traits or quirks that are fun ...... im really trying hard to be a better rollplayer and not a roleplayer..... so i need something fun i can do with him ...... i may have answered my own questions earlier ..... i think i could carry the quilt of my parents death with me and use that as drive to prove myself ...... i might be a bit cocky and flamboyant often getting into trouble cause i act first and think second(10 wis)... any other ideas ? |
| Kalanth12-10-03, 03:30 PM | Well, you seem to have a grasp on how to play this character already. Some more ideas, just how flambouyant do you want to go? I once played an Orc bard that wore a purple wide brim hat with a large purple feather jutting from the side. He always ran around with the group saying things when the others would fail and he would succeed (i.e. an individual missed a goblin on their attack, the Orc followed with, "Thats not how you do it! More like this!!" Then killed the goblin with a blast from his musket.) Cocky is good, go with someone that is very confident of what they do, but once again I must say that you should avoid rubbing that into anybody's face (as players and characters I am sure they would not want to hear that). Maybe a catch phrase or two to go with the spells, a feet I always like was the signature spell, but I don't remember where I saw that one. Be flashy in your casting style as well. Insist on making the casting seem just a bit more stylish, a bit more intricate, a lot more impressive. Maybe you could get the DM to go along with it and do a Bluff check to see if other spell casters would believe you to be more powerful because of the way you cast. That would be interesting to see. |
| Lord QZip12-10-03, 07:21 PM | All right here's an idea. Your a head strong elf that loves his rapier. He's brave and courageous but when the rug is pulled out from under him he hides. Othwerwise he uses his wizardry to give him advantages (haste) and so when your opponent thinks he knows you all of a sudden he's eating a fireball. You live by keeping your friends and destroying your enemies. Being so headstrong and courageous no one would think that your scarred of spiders. You love to uncover the truth but your lack of wisdom makes your ideas normally wrong. Have fun with adding things to this idea. |
| Morka12-11-03, 08:36 PM | Your father was an elven fighter and taught you swordmanship. Your mother was a wizard, but you were barely interested in the arcane art. However, when she died, she became a ghost. When you were fighting kobolds, in fact your mother's ghost merged with you to protect you from the shaman's spell. That's how you gained spellfire. Now, you still don't like magic, but you are forced to admit you have a gift, and you should develop it. And once a while, your mother's ghost appear to chat with you. |
| CarpeNoctem12-11-03, 09:37 PM | Yup, Morka stole my idea. But really, most character concepts are templates more than ideas. I remember the time I made an elf who grew up in his own community, wasn't a bastard, or an orphan, who wasn't kicked out, infused with powers, and didn't have a calling or talent for the sword or magic. Yup. A man among heros. An Avatar of Mediocrity. |
