| bleys01-02-04, 09:50 AM | Hello all I'm fleshing out a cleric of Kelemvor (LN, god of Death) and I could use a bit of inspiration for his background. Here's my thoughts up till now. His general outlook will be that of a quiet young human. When not in battle he focuses on spreading the word of his god to the common people, not as much through rousing sermons but more through the telling of stories ( Perform: oratory ). He also spends a lot of time on training and on his weapons. I would like people to think he might as well be a Cleric/fighter even though he will be a pure cleric. He might not be that good in battle but I plan on using some of the Divine feats to buff his battle skills. When he's in battle I want him to appear extremely concentrated and highly disciplined, with no screams and roars but instead praisings of his god or promises/threats to his enemies that they shall see him soon. But all of it kept in an (relatively) low and intense voice. He'll be using a Bastard Sword (chosen weapon of Kelemvor) in two hands or one hand when casting spells. (I'm hoping I can convince my DM to go around the requirement for Bastard sword proficiency of BAB +1 ) I'll take Travel and Fate as domains as they fit pretty well with the very physical way I plan to play him. Now so far as his background is concerned I've only decided that he's to be around 20 years old and coming from around cormyr or the dales. Any suggestions and thoughts would be appreciated. /bleys |

The general outlook of the character still fits but it should give me even more opportunities for Roleplaying. So here we go again, does anyone have any feedback or suggestions for this guy? /bleys |
| Skyrocket01-04-04, 12:27 PM | Well, the big question is why Kelevor? If he's an assimar he'd naturally be draw to a rightous god like Torm or Tyr. So why did your character choose to go for a LN god? As for the combat thing, you could just take weapon focus on your sword. Always handy and useful if you want to become a Doomguide later. |
| Morka01-04-04, 09:37 PM | Kelemvor is not the usual god a young human will choose to serve. Perhaps one of his parents or grandparents die (not necessary from violent death), and when this person was put to rest, he was impressionned by the calm and authority of the local priest of Kelemvor. |
| Mr. VanderMeer01-05-04, 05:18 AM | I have a sample background that may help you. This is an Aasimar cleric of Kelemvor that I played for a while in an online game: "Walen’s mother worked in an asylum in Iriaebor, as a nurse. Of the many lunatics in the asylum, there was one who was particularly mysterious. His name unknown, the staff referred to him as ‘the pale’. His hair, eyes and skin were all completely white and he radiated a sort of otherworldly beauty. He was quite mad and claimed to be a son of the angels. In his distorted fantasy world he believed was meant to rule over humanity. In a devious state, he used some sort of magical ability to seduce Walen’s mother and he took advantage of her. The next day the stranger was gone, vanished into thin air and the poor nurse was pregnant. A peculiar eleven months later, she give birth to Walen, a beautiful boy who had inherited some of his fathers traits although he looked far more human. From a very young age on, Walen displayed an immense insight into all things, especially the nature of the mind, of life and of death. He grew up in the asylum, surrounded by madmen and his view on life is very different from other people. Seeing a lot of suffering, Walen recognized death as the natural relief from suffering. Although he still values life and encourages others to live it to the fullest, he also sees death as something of great beauty. Through this knowledge he found Kelemvor, the deity that embodies everything Walen believes in. Walen is new to the worship of Kelemvor but is very driven and intends to reach priesthood soon. Walen is handsome and is in good physical shape. He wears his black hair short and wild. His skin is very pale and does not tan, no matter how much time he spends in the sun. His eyes are eerily bright grey, close to white. Walen is cautious in his dealing with others. His great insight has made him realize that many people only seek to take advantage of other. That is of course their own bussiness, but Walen doesn’t trust people until he knows them well and has studied their behaviour. Walen is also disciplined and driven. He is opposed to excesses of evil, but also does not like people who are blinded by righteous causes. When give the choice between fighting for good or for evil, he would choose good. " |
| FriendoftheDork01-06-04, 06:24 PM | Well, about the sword thing you could take martial weapon prof: bastard sword and only use it in two hands, except when casting spells. Unless you plan to use a shield or casting spells while swinging the sword (not possible unless quickened spell), you won't need the exotic weapon prof. But the character: I agree that Assamars are more drawn towards really good deities. Kelemvor? Well, unless you were trained as a boy by the church of Kelemvor you could have your familily slaughtered by undead and swear to hunt undead for revenge (Kelemvor hates undead). Or combine both, while using the latter the reason to become an ADVENTURING cleric of Kelemvor. |
| bleys01-06-04, 06:51 PM | Thx for the feedback FriendoftheDork It appears that background is the obvious way to go because I just wrote this rough background story for him. My name is Gregor ”Brighteyes” Hallack I was born in 1353DR also known as Year of the Arch in Marsember in Cormyr. Son of a captain of the guard and a seamstress I had a quiet and secluded upbringing for the first 5 years of my life because our neighbors did not trust me or my parents after I was born, because of my eyes. My mother always loved me but it hurt her to see others reaction to me. My father never loved me but he was an honorable man and did all he could to give me a good (and disciplined) upbringing. Then in 1358 during the Time of the Troubles my mother was killed during riots in the city. My father was out trying to stop the same riots and came home to find my mother dead and me hiding in a cupboard. After that my father raised me alone and although there never was any love towards me there was always honor towards the memory of my mother. (witnessing my mothers death, my fathers upbringing and seclusion because of my eyes resulted in my LN alignment) My father and I moved to a posting at Castle Crag in 1363. He died in 1366 when he was with a patrol escorting a trade caravan back into Cormyr, and they were ambushed by a Zhentish raiding party. They were wiped out but I saw my father one more time… When I got the news I was hit hard, but the same day a caravan was passing through and an elderly warrior-priest named Aemos Voke earned my gratitude when he stopped a couple of the regular bullies from beating me even though he had seen my eyes. He took pity on a young boy and we spent a long evening talking about life. When the caravan continued the next day I went along. We had barely passed beyond sight of Castle Crag when we were ambushed by the same zhentish raiding party which had killed my father, how did I know? Because their filthy necromancer had used my father and his comrades-in-arms as a basis for an undead reinforcement of the warparty.. During the battle that followed I saw Aemos holding back half the enemy warparty through divine might and skill-at-arms alone. I also saw my father reanimated as a abomination of evil, a zombie warrior and I saw him destroyed by the holy might of Kelemvor as channeled through Aemos. It was only because of long talks with Aemos that I did not despair after this final assault on my young soul. He started training me in the ways of the warrior-priests of Kelemvor, while he worked at salvaging what was left of my wounded view of the world. Now 6 years later I myself have joined the clergy of Kelemvor and making my first solo journeys across the lands to spread the word and battle the enemies of the faith. |
