Ok, this is my first character ever... Don't misunderstand, I've made and played a lot of other characters, and I have DMed a lot of campaigns... But this char stuck with me all the time... Although in our primary campaign, we tried making so many new campaigns that we just have reaced from level 3 to level 13... That is were he is now...

As I only played my character from level 3 to 13, and he started out as 66 years (which in our campaign is like 22 for a human), I wondered what he did in his "teens" up to level 3... That's why we figured out to play a campaign from level 1 to 3, while we leared a new player to DM, so us two DMs could play together for once...

The deal about my character is a following:
Basicly started out as an easy char, Dwarven Fighter in level 3. Name: Twibbledorf Skullcleaver

More complicated:

----
About 500 years ago the capital of the eastern dwarven empire, Rad'Eel was under attack by the infernal hordes of Oldenburg. (Which is a town that still existis in our campaign, were our players almost went at serveral occations.) There seemed to be so to say no ways of survival for these dwarves, as the armies of Ardenia, capital of the Serdonian empire seemed to never come. That was when the Skullcleaver clan brought forth their army. An army which were very uncommon for a dwarf. Dwarven warriors riding dragons, even casting spells.

Thanks to the valiant, yet original fighting of the Skullcleaver Clan, the city of Rad'Eel stood strong long enough for the Ardenian army to come rescuing. This made the Skullcleavers one of the most popular and powerful clans in the empire. That was not very well liked by the elder council of the dwarves, so they ploted against them. They conjured forth anicent laws in which the use of dragons and magic were forbidden. Thus the Skullcleavers were decleared honorless and as such were disbanded from the lands. The remaining Skullcleavers returned to a life of smithing as poor smiths in the outskirts of the Serdonian empire (where Ardenia is the capital).

Many, many years went by. Twibbledorf were born in the little town of Welhtdale as a son of Thorgrun the Smith. The blood of the anicent Skullcleavers burst through his vains, and he could not settle like a Smith, but had to leave in order to sort his life out.

...That is the backstory of my char. Now I start out with our "background camaign" from level one...

Twibbledorf went to a little town, deep into the south. There he sat down for a beer with the few remaining coins he had. The mayor started holding a speech about the benefits of waging war the nightbouring towns. Twibbledorf on his hand, started arguing against that, as did an unknown elf on the other side of the room, named Melathiir Celtorai.

They found themselves so angered by the opinions of the mayor, that they later that evening beat up his servant, as well as stole as much of his personal ale as they could carry, along with an axe for Twibble to wield.

..This is were the early campaing start... In this campaign, put 6 years before the other one, Twibble and Melathiir go around trying to accumulate wealth by influencing politics, buying smiths, starting minor wars and such to sell more.. just exploiting for money... The only thing we know is that Twibble is supposed to end up 5 years later and 20 punds thicker in Blessingdell, where the Forge of Fury is (my first adventure... *memories*).. Alone... And not too rich..

In the main adventure, Twibble starts out with the adventuresrs altitude... He had figured out that he needed more founds, fame and power before he can start "politicify" more. Therefore he starts adventuring more, with a party, while he is still the same brat leaching upon others. This however changes as he gets beaten up by an elf in Vorbony. He decides to improve the future of his clan, no longer seeking goods for himself. He obtains a dragonspirit and as thus once more takes up the Skullcleaver burden as a Dragonrider (Dragoon). This happened when he was level 8, so his last 5 levels is Dragoon.

After this he does some major stuff, saving Ardenia and such, obtaining a personal dragon, but nothing of this changes his personality and the like, except for the fact that he soon feels ready to start once more as a politician, in order to gain land where he can let the Skullcleavers live, and soon being able to return to Rad'Eel to restore the Skullcleaver's honors.
------

He is really Ftr 8/Drg 5 right now. Dragoon is a homebrew class.

In the background campaign, he is level Ftr 1. When we finish the BG camp, we are allowed to remake our "modern" char in order to fit the background. So what levels/feats/skills/flaws/traits etc. would fit for this char? both in the begining and the "modern" one.

WARNING: I AM NOT LOOKING FOR CHARACTER OPTIMIZING, BUT DEVELOPEMENT. I WANT A GOOD RP CHAR, NOT GOOD POWER CHAR.

Twibbledorf ? seriously, its a shameful action to steal name, especially from a such hilarious and unique character as Twibbledorf Pwent is

yes. i just blacklisted you. reminds me of the time a played with a rogue named Jarlaxle.

I beat him to death with a stick just outside of the comic shop where we play. Good thing I don't know you in real life

But, to be fair, I think it's Thibbledorf Pwent; it's been a while since I've read all the buggers. So he didn't outright steal the name. It's kind of like Vanilla Ice stealing the hook from that song, but he added like a little 'ding' to make it different.

We should just call you Vanilla Ice from now on as punishment.

I dont care what reason you took the name, its better to come up with your own instead of just taking others. Ok my group has atleast two players that played for 20 years so i have no chance to take a wellknown name, but anyway. Taking names have a number of downsides, recognition: you can be harassed for your poor fantasy (even if you choose the name as a tribute to that character), main target of a numbers of jokes. and ofc ranted by uncaring Meistersmitts (like me). they can falsely believe that you copied the character straight over and expect you to burst into rage exc. exc. (No im not THAT Conan).

Excuse me of my bad behavior but making up your own name also makes your character's more you, instilling a bit of your own heroic potenial... and all this comes from a man who played a monk called "Xian" of all names

(If you ever play a MMORPG, try to survive more than 2 secs with a name like Saruman)

I got one question.. Am I plain stupid when I ask: "What persons name have I ripped? I never heard that name befor I made the character..."

Because I've never heard of this "Twibbledorf Pwent"... Who is he?

Ah, Twibbledorf Pwent. The Fairest of all the dwarwes on and in and under Toril. He, who with his catlike grace and raiper sharp wit has baffled both Dragons and Demons. He who is the fairest and purest being roaming the Realms with every sigle pore of his body dripping with sweet liquids that draws humming birds from all over the planet so that they may bask in his glorious Essence. His beard allwas braided perfectly he strides with a beauty so unfathomable that even the fairest of Nymphs claw their own eyes out in jealous frenzy. The leader that never acts without thinking and the wisest of all living creatures displaying an unearthly patiance and harmonic set of mind.
But most known is he for his compasion. Never has he brought harm uppon anything; not even the grass he walks on as it bows before his feet. In all of his magnificent exitence he has not even harmed a fly and never even considerd doing so.

He goes by the name Twibbledorf Pwent!
The Heroic deeds
The passion
His Courage would change the world.

...And my supply of advanced words is used up for the day. God natt!

Basically what Sephiroth Do'Urden is trying to say is that Twibbledorf Pwent is a nigh-on insane dwarven battle rager who jumps into battle with only his bladed armor and spiked helmet.

This guy takes on any odds by running at them head on, skewering them on his helmet or grappling them and convulsing violently till they are ripped to shreds.

He's not above biting either.

He was Created by R.A Salvatore and made his first appearence in a book called The Legacy. Needless to say, the story is told in the Forgotten Realms.

Hey! It is possible to make that misstake once you know. He could have snapped up the name Twibbledorf subconsiously you know.

Of course, having the same first name as someone else isn't so uncommon. My first name's Julian. Does that make me a rip-off of Julian the Apostate, Julian of Toledo, Julian the porn-star, Julian, count of Ceuta, or any of the other thousands of Julians that came before me? Of course not. It's just a moderately common name.

On the other hand, I find "Skullcleaver" to be a rather difficult clan name to take seriously.

Skullcleaver might not be good for a family name, but I have heard of adveturers with weider names. Like Pwent.

pwnt.

Okay, I so could not resist that... :D

I agree that he might have just picked up the name "by accident", i.e. reading it somewhere and it stuck in his memory so he ended up using it later. I've had the same thing happen to me.

EDIT: And I just remembered when. I wanted to name my rogue Arthas. This, about three months after watching my older bro playing WC III for a few minutes. Never played the game myself.

Ok, can we please quit dicussing my char's name? :P

I never read any book containing the name Twibbledorf, so I'm sorry if I ripped, but I didn't really...

But can I get some feedback on the CHAR, not the NAME? *smilesinnocently* Would have bben cool :P

Well, for a start...why the abrupt change of heart from selfishness to "the good of the clan?" I'm not sure being beaten up would cause me to have an abrupt change of heart. That sort of thing tends to leave people bitter and resentful rather than virtuous and repentant.

When the elf beat him up, he decided to hide his motives.
He obtained the dragonspirit for selfish reasons.
But as time went by, and he no longer was the brat who leached on others, he started to think.
He remembered his fathers stories, and after a time, he decided to improve the future of his clan.
He's still a tad selfish(Keeping the very nice stuff for himself), but not nearly as much as before.

Wouldn't it help to have a description and maybe the stats of Twibbledorf at least the first level stats. Skills and Feats can help too, probably upto 6th level could still be influenced by the things that happened in the first three levels, maybe higher. I am guessing that you do not intend to change anything about your higher level version of this character as a result of the 1-3 level adventurering, so it would make sense to derive the 1-3 level from the choices you made for the resulting higher level character.

Hey I want to help, but there just isn't enough character information to make whatever I would offer to make sense with the character already generated.

Brian.

Adrian_Crane: The change of heart started growing forth as he settled in blessingdel after his first years of adventuring (level 3)... Then he started adventuring again, just not AS greedy and a lot more thoughtfull...

That the Elf beat him up just triggered the thoughts that had traveled through his mind for a while... Like: "Why do I struggle so, just for this gold?", "Is this really all I want?", "Why did I really leave my hometown... I seem to remeber a little youthish will to restore the clan... It has just been quenched for a while, as I got caught up in the smell of gold... I think..", "Is killing the only way?"....

1984: You got it a little, but not quite... Thanks for the input anyways...

BrianLynn: What sort of description? And, I DO want to remake the entire char, so consider his abilities to lay in your mind... Every skill, class, feat and spell choise lies before you... However, from level 9 -> 13, he go as a dragoon... But what would be logical, according to the story to be his level 1-8 stats? And, I would remake him completely, so never mind that he is going dragoon from level 9 ;)

But, thanks for your willingnes to help... With this new info, are you still willing? Would make me happy :D

One interesting thing to consider is that due to his warmongering, profiteering past, Twibbledorf might have made some enemies. You may want to take some time to flesh out NPCs that he has to either atone to, or perhaps fight.

It wouldn't be far-fetched for someone who got dragged into one of "his" wars to build up their own little force for taking Twibbs down as revenge.

You know, Adrian_Crane, I like you! :D

That was a cool idea... I'd really tell my DM... Some of his enemies might have given up after the years, and some he might have squared up with, but some might have been planning INSANE plans together with whatever power needed (be it undead, mortal or fiendish)...

That would be awsome...

Well I didn't try to get anything, but it seemed like Twibbledorf just suddenly changed his opinions. So I tried to give you an addition to the story.

Hm. The modern char: Fight4/Roug4/Dragoon5.
I would imagine that Twibbledorf wouldn't mind fighting dirty, at least in his early days.
Make sure to pick up some ranks in diplomacy.
As for feats and stuff, I'm not sure.
