Its been a while since I've played D&D, and my group wants a new villain. I've been working on one, but I need some help, here is what I have thus far:

---

Character Name: Kaligulus
Level: 1
Class: Sorcerer
Race: Half-Vashar/Half-Yuan-Ti
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Deity: The Xammux
Size: Medium
Age: 32
Gender: Male/Female
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 185
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black
Speed: 30 Ft.
Languages: Common, Draconic, Abyssal
Feats: Willing Deformity, Dark Speech, Alertness, Toughness, Skill Focus (Sense Motive)
Skills: Alchemy 10, Balance 7, Bluff 7, Climb 10, Concentration 10, Hide 10, Intimidate 10,
Knowledge (Arcana) 10, Knowledge (Religion) 10, Sense Motive 10, Move Silently 10

HD: 56
Str: 18 +4
Dex: 18 +2
Con: 18 +2
Int: 18 +8
Wis: 18 +8
Cha: 18 +6

For: 2
Ref: 5
Will: 5
Nat Armor: 1
BAB: 7

Equipment:
Serpent Armor (+3 Leather Armor, +2 insight bonus on Reflex saving throws)

Disorders: Cannibalism, Masochism, Self-Mutilation, Sadist, Psychopathy, Necrophilia, Bestiality

Personality: The deity known as 'The Xammux' decided to create a hybrid child by immaculately
impregnating a Vashar female with the seed of a Yuan-Ti male as an experiment in crossbreeding.
Through error in the hybrid impregnation it is a she-male. Kaligulus is not a social person, neither
accepted by the Yuan-Ti or the Vashar. At the age of 10 it contracted Warp Touch twice, resulting
in a third eye and two bull-like horns. Kaligulus longs to become a deity like The Xammux, its
creator. It is prejudice against both sexes. Kaligulus sees life as a game or pain. It wears somewhat
gray clothing, and has short dark hair. Its brown eyes are glassy and distant. Its tongue is forked.

Psionics (Sp): The transformation activates latent psionic potential in human minds, granting tainted
ones supernatural abilities similar to those of true Yuan-Ti. A tainted one can create the following
effects through the power of its mind as a sorcerer of its character level: Poison (Fortitude save
against a DC of 13+ the tainted ones Con Mod), Polymorph Self (Into snake or snakelike forms
only)

Poison Bite (Ex): The saliva of a tainted one is poisonous when ingested or introduced into the
blood. A tainted one can only inject its venom while grappling a foe with exposed skin. The fortitude
save to resist this Poison has a DC of 10 + ½ the tainted ones hit dice + the tainted ones Con Mod.
Victims who fail this save take 1d4 points of Con dam. After 1 min, they must make another save,
failure means another 1d4 points of Con dam. A tainted one's kiss is also poisonous, though in this
case the save dc is reduced by 2.

Poison Immunity (Ex): Immune to all forms of snake venom.

Spell Resistance (Ex): Spell resistance of 12 +1 per 3 levels.

Too many disorders. Pick one, perhaps two, then work them to the bone. Once you know which one you prefer for your villain, you get an idea of what its fortress looks like, what it holds, etc. But most importantly, you have an idea how your villain thinks, how it reacts, what it likes and dislikes, and what it will it do that'll bring it in to the attention of your PCs.

I dunno... it seems more like a sexually derranged monster than an actual villain. Between the monstrous background and all the psychological disorders, it seems like this guy/thing would be more likely to torture, kill, and rape a yak than plot against the PC's. It's disturbing, but not particularly intimidating. I would recomend going with something subtler.

Hmmm, I really like the villain. The disorders seem fine, I mean hey if I walk in a room and saw some villain having sex with an animal I would be intimidatedand I might even run. Good job with him and have fun fighting him.

Just noticed: lots of 18's were rolled in the creation of this villain. Heh.

How about adding a few "weaknesses" and interests, to your description. A villain with a weakness is a much more interesting villain, and if he's got interests (he collects stuff, likes to read, likes to dance, etc.) he's still even more interesting.

Any nimwit with a pound of brain can come up with an über-villain that'll wipe the floor with the PCs. But that doesn't mean the PCs and the DM will have fun with that NPC. Make your NPCs interesting above all. Efficiency isn't a priority in most cases.

I feel what you've come up with so far is nothing but the complete Book of Vile Darkness mixed with some Savage Species stuff. At very quick glance, it looks more like some optimized aberration with no soul.

I agree that this character has no soul. Perhaps you could get rid of Masochism and Self-Mutilation, and really focus on his twisted sexual views. Sadist fits because, well, its a standard. Bad guys like to inflict pain. And maybe you should try rolling his stats, then redistributing them to what he really uses, doesn't seem like he has much wisdom if he has 'fun' with dead people and little animals... As for a weakness, have him go blind after every 2 attacks, I dunno...
