... perhaps picking class more specifically. Here's my idea: I want a charachter that is similar to "Gaston" from Disney's "Beauty and the Beast".. he is not that intelligent, big and brash, square jawed, really really good with the ladies, very attractive... thinks he can do anything, but falls flat on his face a lot (which I actually want)... has a kind of "never fear, xxxxxx's here" and "don't worry I'll kill/save/get/take that xxxxxx" and fails, A LOT! I want him to kind of be a joke. He is cauky as all hell, and confident, but doesn't really accomplish what he says he will. But, he is also a big oof and lucks his way through combat and situations, like lucky punches, strikes, whatever....

My game is only using the 3.5 players handbook, so CORE CLASSES ONLY PLEASE!

So with that in mind, here are my attribute rolls (I'm only rolling once and just taking whatever life gives me to give him more flavor)...

13, 11, 15, 17, 14, 12

So.... hmm, this might not work so well as I got really good rolls, lol... one more shot...

7, 13, 9, 13, 12, 17

There, that should give you guys something to work with.... by the way, my main goal is just to have fun, I'm not a munchkin or a power player, I just want to chill with my friends, laugh, and have a good time. By the way, the game starts on Wednesday night, so I need responses ASAP! Thanks everyone!

My first thought is to make him a fighter. Carrying around a big sword and constantly bragging just makes it seem right. The 7 and the 9 goes to intelligence and wisdom, whichever way you think best. The 17 naturally goes to charisma. Apart from that, doesn't matter, imo. :P

Sounds like you are going to have a blast playing this guy. Enjoy!

Yeah, that's a good idea... I think I'll have him carry around a great sword and he'll be telling all the ladies "how much bigger his is..." lol. So I'm thinking about this for stats...

Str 13
Dex 9
Con 14
Int 8
Wis 9
Cha 17

Just to make him extra clumsy... I just traded a couple points around to keep more in charachter....

So what's a good name for my buffon?

I would almost be inclined to switch out the charisma with either strength on constitution. Here is my rationale; Charisma is not only attractiveness but force of personality, leadership, persuasiveness. If this guy is just a big bag of hot air he might not be as charismatic as he would like to think. Moving the higher stat into STR/CON would still give you an above average CHA without penalizing your character into ineptitude as a fighter. One could also say that he lends more of his good looks to his muscles or toughness, see where I am going with this?

I suppose another option would be to go the ranger route. I was envisioning a brash hunter of sorts. You get a combat style, favored enemy(female?) note the bonus to bluff/diplomacy, animal companion(mans best friend), the bravado that comes with the hunters persona, and a handful of skill points. Just a thought. You wouldnt get any spells but I think that is in line with the character. If you could talk your DM into letting you use the variant in complete warrior, that gives you something for not having spells.

As far as names go, it has got to be something drawn out. Perhaps something with "esquire" in it. At least a first, middle, last, at least one surname. All of these must be announced whenever he adresses someone, with lots of pomp.
I assume he comes from money or at least has some form of pedigree?

dvlsadvct: Exactly! Lots of good ideas in your post, and ofcourse the cha should actually be lower - once the hot air ballon deflates, everybody will see what a sorry, insecure doofus he really is :)
As for the names, I would say Reginald or Rufus were appropriate. Add any number of titles, surnames and middlenames to make it real flashy, as you say.
Favored enemy (female)... does that give you some bluff/diplomacy bonuses when dealing with them? Wonderful class, then. :D
So forgedsoul, I can only advise you to follow this road as it will surely take you to laughs, good rp and a memorable char.
Enjoy!

<I know you're game has already started>

Favored Enemy (Ex): At 1st level, a ranger may select a type of creature from among those given on Table: Ranger Favored Enemies. The ranger gains a +2 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival checks when using these skills against creatures of this type. Likewise, he gets a +2 bonus on weapon damage rolls against such creatures.

Ok, so there isn't a direct bonus to Diplomacy but you still have a synergy bonus:

Synergy: If you have 5 or more ranks in Bluff, you get a +2 bonus on Diplomacy, Intimidate, and Sleight of Hand checks, as well as on Disguise checks made when you know you’re being observed and you try to act in character.

In any case, I love the idea, forgedsoul.
