I am trying to write a good background for my warforge like character. He is a pirate like character that dreams of ruling the known bodies of water. I need help fleshing out the idea. Any help available? This is the first construct like character I play so I do not know who to create a proper background.

the first question you should ask yourself is why does he want to rule the known bodies of water? what drew him to the life of a pirate?
just a few quirks you might want to add into your character is that while he is unafraid of drowning he had a bad experience where he fell off a boat and had to walk for several weeks to get back to port. Thus he now has a rope tied to his leg at all times on a boat.
Perhaps the purchase of a peg leg not to replace a lost one but to try and improve his image.
The zombie parrot has been done to death so I suggest a metal parrot that has been welded to his shoulder to prevent 'That damn tin can' falling off.
Perhaps a ship full of warforged could sail the seas inspiring metal clad fear.
I have a mental image of catapaulting warforged onto enemy ships with ropes tied around one leg incase they miss.:)
If you want a more serious background take a look at the link in my sig.

Warforged can't drown, they just sink to the bottom and can walk across the ocean floor back to shore.

It sounds like you are in Eberron (unless you are using the Eberron races in another setting). So the Lhazaar Principalities is where you want to be. Its the most "piratey" region of Khorvaire.

DragonShard - The Lhazaar Principalities Part 1 (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20050502a)

DragonShard - The Lhazaar Principalities Part 2 (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20050516a)

Since its right after the Last War and you (as a warforged) has just been given the ability to live as a free person (prior you were property of a nation used in war). The Treaty gave you rights, so you have just been on your own for a few months/years (if your game begins in the normal timeframe).

Maybe you fought for Lhazaar and your "owner" was a captain of a navy fleet? And that is how you got into ships. Maybe your owner (needs to be a military commander) was killed by a pirate raid and now you want to destroy all the pirates, etc.
