| bjdaredevil0106-20-06, 07:59 AM | Hi, im having problems coming up with a concept for my character almost like i can't find his rightful place in the game but i love my character and don't want to let him go. We just started a new campaing that is a mix between dragonlance and Dungeons and dragons storylines. I have a Elan-Psion(telekenesis) neutral-evil character in a world where according to the DM theres little to no Magic and if seen in public using magic i can be prosecuted like a witch sort of speak. I was hired by a shady character to protect a caravan and in our way the a kings town ( i only did acept for personal gain in the trip) the problem im having is that can't figure out the best way to play my characters personality. I know how to play the neutral evil part just need help coming with traits things that will make him more like a real person, habbits, hobby's, expresions...etc... I started playing him where he is very mysterious and don't like talking to no one, but thats costing me in the game ( exp. wise) because the DM say im not getting envolve enough ( by the way i'm a newb if you haven't notice) He wan't me to get more envolve in the game. How should i play a character like this? please help im in desperate needs. |

If I remember correctly, the way to do it IS NOT to be quiet and shy away from talking. The way to do it is to actually have a secret. Something that you don't want other people knowing. Come up with a background for why the character is the way he is. Include in that background the thing that he's loathe to talk about or have others discover. You might even talk to your DM about incorporating whatever your mystery is into the game. Also, here's a great thread for new players on creating characters. It definately helped me in creating characters with flavor. How to Create a Role Playing Character (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=105563) You already have your character made, but there's probably a couple things you can still incorporate into this one. Hope that helps. |

I agree but it can be over done. The character has a secret in his powers which will mean trouble if discovered but it needs fleshing out. How did he gain his powers? Is he happy about having them? Does he know others like him? As a NE he may resent the fact he has to hide his power and may use them to hurt and embarass others for revenge. Or he may be a survior type who will do anything to protect himself and further his own goals. In any event my advice is to have a goal for your character. What does he want to achive? Too many characters I've seen want power for power's sake. Not a great motivation, why does this character want the power that he is developing. If he is risking his well being he needs an end goal that put him on this path. |
