| Yranuis08-03-03, 05:29 PM | I'm looking to make Endrin, my Elven Cleric of Boccob, a more three-dimensional character (i.e. give him some personality and depth). His stats are: Str:13 Dex:17 (he's an elf after all) Con:12 Int:11 Wis:16 Cha:16 Feat: Toughness Basic storyline: Born of an elven druid (mom) and an elven wizard (dad), Endrin was pushed by each parent to become what they are. However, he had little interest in nature and very much admired his father whose spells had helped protect his homeland in the past. Studying the ways of wizards, Endrin found he had trouble studying the text of spells and spellbooks and became very frustrated (hence, the INT score above). One night he had a dream in which Boccob appeared to him and told him he was chosen as the 9th of 11 Voices of Boccob and that he was to spread the word of Boccob's return to the world and the coming surge of magic. He has since turned his ways to the worshipping and preaching of Boccob and his return. He asked his father to make hundreds of scrolls that upon being read, would allow anyone with magical potential to spell their name in the air for a couple seconds. With these and his charming personality, he began touring the world to show everyone, including commoners, their magic potential and encourage the use of magic in all of its forms as he preached the return of Boccob. Character evolution: Endrin randomly (6 on a 1d6 each time he gains a level) gains a level of Sorcerer as a gift from Boccob rather than a level of Cleric as his true love is arcane spellcasting. His only personality hook right now is that he never laughs, but smiles instead and that he hates "plants that move" due to a bad experience with his mom. Here's my problem: I can't figure out how to define further important role-playing qualities of his personality. What is he like? Patient? Impatient? Sarcastic? Nice? Cold? Any ideas would be very appreciated!! |

Thus he converts others be showing what a great time he is having following Boccob. As a quirk he can never know when to turn off the humor making jokes at the wrong time. *After party member gets clubbed by an ogre with a large wooden plank* "Endrid, I've been wounded badly. Quickly, heal me." "Feeling a little bored, eh? *chuckles*" *Party member glares at Endrid* "Lighten up a little, not like humor will kill you" *heals party member* |

As much as I've read about him, Boccob is a very serious, reserved deity, and clerics are (usually) supposed to emulate the gods they serve. If you want a jester, that's Garl Glittergold's territory. As far as personality goes, there's a whole plethora of options. You could make him a clone of his god on earth - reserved, patient, and interested only in magic. You could emphasize the difference of him from other elves; why did he decide to go with a god outside of the elven pantheon? You could make him an egotistical jerk, overly confident of his own magical prowess, and willing to prove it at the drop of a hat. Then there's the option of the wandering mystic - mysterious, wild, reserved, and totally interested in all things magical. That last option would make a lot of sense when you take into account the spontaneous nature of the sorcerer. Personally, I'd look into the mystic theurge prestige class. For someone that interested in magic, that makes sense perfectly. By the way, toughness is an awful starting feat for a first-level cleric. You've got twice the hit points of your average wizard, man! Put it in something useful - for this character, I recommend Scribe Scroll. |

He just doesn't really care about people. It's not that he doesn't like people, or that he actively hates anyone, he's just apathetic when it comes to the suffering of others... he honestly couldn't care less. The things he cares about are magic and knowledge. These are his art and the only things he gets passionate about. Considering he ended up walking a path very different than his Druidic mother and has spent his time instead in study of magic and Boccob docterine... perhaps he is very uncomfortable when he's in a natural setting. Unlike other elves he's not outdoorsy, and is uncomfortable when out in the wild. Just some thoughts. |
