| mudbunny10-12-06, 11:21 AM | This is for a pbp game that I am joining as a L1 monk. Here is an exerpt from the DM's info about the world: Also each emotion is it's own magic force and has a dragon guardian guarding that emotion. What ever happens to that guardian happens to the emotion in the world, and vice versa. For example, there is a guardian of Hatred, greed, passion, despair, strength (Kord), luck, etc. and each guardian can be found in the part of the world where it's emotion reigns the strongest. You can choose to have any one of them as your diety. No matter your class choose a diety as it will come into play throughout the game. Humans induced with too much hate mutate into monsters, which have been on the rise lately attacking towns and spreading disseases. All emotions (as a magic force) are out of ballance. Each part of the world has a different sort of emotional power (hence your dietys) that govern them. Alas, all the evil emotions are slowly taking control, and there is no one left who cares enough to do anything about it. People just take advantage of the rise of industry making as much money however they can. Very few poeple still have insight to the beauty still left in the world, that once was commonplace before the opening of Pandora's box. Here is what I have come up with so far: Serene Winter’s Orchid 13 years ago.. “Master Oak, we need your help.” she asked with a catch in her voice. “We can already see her attitude changing. She was so calm and happy when she was a little child, however over the past several months, she has gotten more angry and aggressive.” Master Bent Oak sat back in his chair, his fingers steepled in front of him. “Our neighbours, they already lost two of their older children to the rage and anger. One who had it completely overcome him, and the other ... to the rage of the first. We cannot let this happen to Tiana.” “And what would you have me and my temple do?” “We have seen your monks leaving your monastery. They seem so calm and self-possessed. So sure of themselves and their place in the world. We have heard rumors-“ “Rumors??” Tangya paused before answering. “My husband and I” she started, nodding at the male sitting next to her “we run a tavern. When those that pass through are in their cups, they talk. We have heard rumours of your monks undergoing special training. That they can channel their inner anger and rage and control it, use it instead of having it use them.” “Go on.” “We would like...can you...would you consent to Tiana taking these lessons? I know that she is young, but we have no-where else to turn.” “Do you realize the extent of what you are asking? The effect that it will have on you and your family? We normally take only orphans and abandoned children in. The training requires complete and utter devotion. Everything else, family, friends, is to be left behind as part of their old life. This training is also not short. It takes many, many years of training before our disciples are allowed out in the world again. And when they are allowed out, many of them spend their lives testing themselves and wandering the world. Never has one returned home, except by chance.” “If it means that Tiana will be safe, not give into the anger and rage, it is what we will do.” “The decision, once made, will be irrevocable, you do realize. Once you leave her here, you no longer have any say over what she does or the training that we give her. She will cease being your daughter, and will be treated the same as any other student here.” “It is our last hope. We have no choice. Allowing her to succumb to the rage is not an option.” “Very well then. We will accept Tiana into our house.” “May we say goodbye?” “No. Leave now.” A short while later “Come along child, it is time for your training to start.” “Training?? What training?? Where are my parents?? I want to go home!!” “You no longer have parents, you have instructors and teachers now. We shall provide for you.” “And what will you get in return??” “Another weapon against the rage and hate that is trying to claim you. Come along.” With all the strength and rage that her 6 year old body could muster, Tiana attacked the monk accompanying her. Ignoring the ineffective blows, the monk did not allow the sympathy he felt for the child to show in his face and waited for her to expend her rage. Several minutes later, she had collapsed and was weeping uncontrollably on the floor. Picking her up, he walked to a room and placed her on the bed, where she rapidly fell asleep. Covering her with a blanket, he moved the rest of the furniture out of the way and started going through his training katas. Several hours later, covered in a thin sheen of sweat, he noticed the child was awake and watching him. Finishing the routine, he stopped and looked at her. Wide-eyed, she asked “What were you doing? How did you bend like that?” “It is all part of the training. When you are finished, you will be able to do this as well.” He paused and looked at her. “Are you ready to start your trainings and enter your new life?” “Do I have a choice??” “No, but you can either fight it, or accept the role that fate has provided for you. Going along with fate occasionally has it’s rewards.” “I guess...” 7 years ago... “What were you doing outside of the walls child?? You will be lucky that you don’t catch a fever.” Her hair is currently yellow, but after the fever, it will turn white, and one of the monks will mention that she looks like a Winter Orchid, and the name will stick. Then, further on, she will develop a reputation for extreme calm and peace in stressful situation, and they will start calling her Serene Winter's Orchid. Unfortunately, I can't think up situations at the moment. so I am coming to this board for suggestions. I am not looking for a detailed write-up, just suggestions of moments that I could include to flesh it out. |
