| iamtheholymolyman12-15-03, 09:27 PM | im trying to think of a story line for a hobgoblin paladin who is a fanatic. let me give u an example of the type of fanatic he is, to help clearify what i mean. for instance, if his mission was to cure a town/city of a disease, instead of trying to cure and nurse the sick back to health, he would querentine the sick, exterminate them, then burn the corpses all for the purpose to help cure the city of the disease. another example is trying to gain more follower for the church, he would cause a reign of terror for all people of another religion until they decided to join in the worship of his god. So know that this is clearified, i am not sure on the story that would be behind a normally Lawful evil creature (Hobgoblin) to turn into a fanatic Paladin of his chosen god (which would be the most kind god, some one like pelor. he will be an amazing character to rp and perplex fellow pcs. Thank you ------------- Iamtheholymolyman AKA Quijin |

Of course he is! But he believes otherwise. He's misguided. It's a great idea, but you'll have to check with your DM to see if he will allow your character to gain all those paladin powers simply by *believing* to be Lawful Good. Perhaps a lawful evil demon or god is granting your character those powers, or equivalencies. After all, before your character became a paladin, he had no notion of what powers paladins had. It's not like those who receive the "calling" have access to the Player's Handbook, do they? He simply answers the calling, and the powers come along and he discovers them at the same time. So, it could be quite possible for a willing DM to grant you similar (but twisted) abilities without your character realizing they are perverted versions of a paladin's powers. Lay on hands works fine, but plant life around you withers when you use it, etc.. I once had a similar idea, whereas a paladin would be quite obviously mad, speaking old english : Who be yeh, devil? demon? I care not. You die by my hand, fiend." The twist is that he is constantly hallucinating, and those Trolls, Fiends, Demons and Witches he faces almost never are thus. He believes he's on some sort of holy mission, and is a true fanatic, too. It's pretty much a character from a Grendel Tales comic book, so I should not say I *had* this idea. I borrowed the idea of a misguided fool on a holy quest. |

However, a side question is causing terror in the name of Pelor should develop a large publicity, and come to the ear of the church of Pelor quickly. How will they allow him to continue this? Perhaps your hobgoblin was born in a hobgoblin settlement, where most population was LE. However, when he was young, he met a missionary of Pelor, and followed him. He was raised by the church of Pelor, and was trully LG at this time. But he was fooled by a devil, or perhaps by Magglubyet or NOMOG-GEAYA themselves, pretending to be some celestial sent by Pelor. He switched alignment to LE, and this devil/god continue to grant him powers. Since he now think like his parents were thinking, he sees no wrong on what he does. He should become a blackguard, and have a proud fiendish mount. And when the church of Pelor hear of strange things about him, the missionary he met when he was young defend him: "No, no, he is good, I guarantee this!" |
