| Frylord05-28-07, 11:24 PM | I am playing a Thief (the computer game series) style D&D game on PBP, and I will request the great people of the Character Development board's help on the personality, and perhaps background of my character. (I'd prefer that you have played or know of the Thief series, but I'll explain if you haven't.) Basically, "Rags" which is the name of the character, has masks upon masks, facades upon facades. He was raised by the secretive Keepers shortly after he was born. (If you've played the Thief games, you'll know who they are.) which is just the basics of my background, which I only need a little help on. He appears to the City Watch as a harmless, homeless wretch of a man. To the Thieves Guild, he is the ever-ryhming, psychopathetic thief named Rags. To the Keepers, he is their loyal agent, keeping the balance and keeping an eye on the Thieves Guild. To himself, he is a being worthy of worship. He wishes to manipulate the Hammerites, Keepers, and Pagans into transforming him into his "rightful form". A god. What I need the most help on, is the collective personalities of Rags. What should he act like? And what kind of ryhmes (sp?) should he use? EDIT: I'm tired, so the post might not make much sense. |

Thieves guilds watch their members pretty closely, they wouldnt want them running of and working for some organisation, unless of course you were leaking alot of information. I dont know what the keepers are, so i cant comment there. And when he is using these differnt 'facades' is he a different person or is he just using the Disguise self spell or something of the like? |

The keepers have something to do with everything, they guide events and such. The keepers shouldnt mind too much if they find out that he works for the theives guild, as long as it doesnt interfear with their work. Is his relationship with the keepers like Garrets with him only doing a few jobs for them or does he do things for them on a regular basis? Comming up with ryhmes often enough will be hard but if you keep them short and simple it shouldnt be to difficult. I would say just keep it a few lines that ryhme, that should be enough. When he is "himself" he should be arrogent. After all, its not easy to have the whole world fooled. Also he should be somewhat paronoid, untrusting. Dont know how much this helps. |
| Frylord05-29-07, 07:51 AM | One, he's just a simple spy for the Keepers, pretending to be an insane ryhming burgelar (spelled that wrong) for the Thieve's Guild, so he works for the Thieves for the Keepers, if that makes any sense. Two, Rags works for the Keepers almost entirely, managing to take some jobs on the side for the Guild that further the Keepers, (and ironically, his) goals. Three, he's level 2. So just starting out being an agent of the Keepers. Four, the facades are like an actor acting in character. For example, he slouches and talks sadly as his homeless man persona, if you look close, he is also paranoid, and perhaps reveals a bit of information for a little food. (Of course, what they do with the information, always seems to further the Keepers goals) In his ryhming persona, Rags twitches randomly, and speaks sinster ryhmes, perhaps giving crypitic information. (Again to further his and the Keepers goals) In his Keeper persona, he is slightly relaxed, obediant to the Keeper cause, and often comments on what an event will do to the balance. In his true persona, Rags is very relaxed, arrogant, charismatic, a bit philisopically (sp?) inclined and unable to understand why everyone doesn't fall down at his feet and worship him. If you need me too, I can give you the entire background. Of course, so far, the comments have been a great help! |
