Are you saying that your friend wants to play a lycanthrope/werewolf? Or does he want something in his backstory about a relative or ancestor being afflicted by that disease/curse some time in his life.

What do you mean: "The power of the mood kills all"?

If you want to talk him out of being a werewolf you can tell him about the disadvantages (involuntary changes & stuff) I guess.

Well if thats all your friend want just make him a Shifter. If you don't know what a Shifter is, it is a race that is a cross between Lycans and humans. They possess a ability that allows them to gain extra power, speed, endurance, but it can only be used a certain amount of times. They have spells, feats, and classes specially designed to make them stronger, and expose more of there Lycantropic abilities.

The Shifters are a base race in Eberron. And I hope this helps.

There would be no real problem with allowing him to play a lycan hybrid, as long as you keep one thing in mind. If you're worried about an out of control character that is. Balance is an essential part of the game and helps to keep it fun. Just remember for every bonus there is, there is a negative somewhere. I personally favor adding a catch into the mix anytime one of my players brings up something that could throw the game off balance. Just make sure that when you do it's something that he won't hate so much as to regret his racial/class choice, but also that won't make too much extra work on your part to keep things under control. For instance: Let's say your friend gets added strength and a Natural bite attack (I'm not sure of the Lycan stats off the top of my head). Come up with some type of adverse effect. Throw a few barbarian rage type negatives at him when he changes form. Maybe because he's fighting with a little more of a primitive instinct he could be a little easier to hit. Maybe if something like that happens in a combat scenario he could suffer the effects of being stunned for a round during the change.

These are all just ideas to possibly tone down the advantages of what he wants to do. Not to take the fun away, but to keep things more manageable for you as the DM. Like I said, I don't have my books in front of me and don't know all the stats from memory. Just a few suggestions. Maybe something you can draw inspiration from.
