| hoMonkulus09-24-04, 11:27 AM | I'm want to make a character that uses the UA prestige paladin, and I want to create a tiefling character that can work towards that ... So here's my problem: I'm having trouble making this more than a simple, stereotypical character (like the lone good Drow, or the guy with a demon in his head, or the moody, angst-ridden tiefling trying to escape his heritage). I guess I really want to look at playing a paladin from a different angle ... not a beacon of hope to people, but a hero whose battle is against indifference as much as evil. SO ... this all boils down to: does a tiefling paladin sound original or hokey, and how would you play it? |

| hoMonkulus09-24-04, 01:38 PM | It's a homebrew campaign ... the prevailing LG deity has the domains of Law, Good, War, and Mercy (home-cooked domain). For a little more campaign flavor, the largest religious sect is the Druids, and few people know or follow any traditional clerics and their gods. Hope that helps flesh it out some! |
| Morka09-26-04, 10:16 PM | You could have been abandonned at the door of some temple at your birth. You were raised in the love and respect of a LG god. With the time, a great faith is growing in you. You don't especially want to convert people, to slay demons and/or dragons or to show your faith too much, you just want to live. But here's the problem: when you're about 17 years old, the temple is attacked by . Almost every priest, cleric, monk and knight is killed, save you, for whatever reason. Searching in the temple's remains, you find an Holy Sword; at first, it hurt you due to your fiend blood, but your faith is great, and finally, you can bear it. Now, you, who's only goal in life was to hide himself and live quietly, you now [i]have to roam the world, and exact vengence against [INSERT NAME HERE]. |

| hoMonkulus09-28-04, 06:21 PM | excellent idea! Revenge fits in very well with my idea of a paladin who is noble but somewhat tainted. Thanks! |
| kasthevampire09-28-04, 06:52 PM | no problem. if you want more ideas this wizard site has a story on a palidin who lived for revenge. it was a good story |
| Levism8409-29-04, 12:51 PM | Along the whole "revenge" thing, you could make it a little more interesting. Example: You were raised in the temple after having been abandoned at birth, and while you had little care for the lawful good god you have a deep devotion to the people who cared for you. However, your temple had many enemies, and a powerful wizard was able to warp your mind (thinking cloud mind followed up with a dominate person spell) and sent you into the temple under his control. While in that state you watched on in horror as you killed everyone in the temple with your own hands. Regaining hold of yourself only after having dispatched those you had grown to know as your only family you set off to find the person responsible for making you do such a thing as the people of the land only know you were the one responsible for killing those in the temple (and why not believe it, after all you are a tiefling). While battling to clear your name, and find the people who did this, you also struggle to find forgiveness within yourself (finding comfort in the god you once paid no mind). Once day, maybe, you will find forgiveness within yourself and be cleared of this wrong. Until than, you must look towards the heavens to find your salvation mercy. Just an idea. ~Rain~ |
