| Fithero05-17-06, 10:44 AM | Ok, its been a while since ive posted but ive got a character that i could use a bit of help with. Im interested in creating an chaotic evil character that is actually playable and one that the other pc's wont want to kill straight out. Basically, the story for this guy is that he is a half elven, half orc (no human in him, his mother was an elf, his father an orc) and has faced discrimination his entire life. His mother was captured and taken by an orc druid who wanted to end the racial war between elves and orcs. The orc druid (very wise, yet very stupid) believed that if he could create a being from both races it would put a stop to the constant fighting... Thinking that no elf would deny sexual relations with an orc if it ment a chance at stopping the war, the orc duid captured an elven maiden and had his way with her. A druid of no small means, the orc managed to keep the elven maiden alive through the conception aswell as through the first few months of pregnancy with his powerfull magics. He devoted so much time and energy to keeping the elven maiden alive that when a rescue attempt was made, his death was quite swift. The elves took the maiden back home and prayed that she would live through the birth of the child, believing that the creature would most likely die before being born. They were somewhat amazed, yet thouroughly disgusted when the child was born not only alive, but quite healthy. It was only due to the elven maidens protests that the child was allowed to live, and on that day the child and mother were outcast from their home. The maidens partner (who remained loyal to the maiden up until that point) decided that he would not go with his partner, instead choosing to leave the community aswell... the traveling in another direction. The mother took the child and moved to a city (no idea what the setting is) that had a very small elven population (though mostly human, half elf/halforc). The mother had little trouble buying a property on the side of town and living off the wealth that she had brought with her. The child found life to be very hard, if people werent being rude to him and naming him a freak, they were overly curious about him, as though her were an oddity on show. An unprovoked assault occoured nearly every week and by the age of 10 they city was so fed up with him being the cause of so much trouble they assigned a guard to protect him. The guard wasnt much good though, open to bribes, he would often turn away at the worst possible moment. By the age of 13 he was becoming quite adept at defending himself, he eventually became so fed up with the guard turning a blind eye that he attacked the guard himself. He spent the night in lock up then returned home, several days later his home was broken into and his mother was slain, the attempted to kill him aswell though he managed to fend them off. With his mother slain, he had lost his only real friend in the world and it was by a sheer miracle that he was allowed to keep his home. With no real income though, he was forced to sell of most of his worldly possessions that werent stolen during the following weeks of his mothers death. He dismissed the his assigned guard (who was only to happy to leave) and swore to rely only apon himself. He applied for work city-wide, though the answer was always either "your too young" or "your a freak", so not able to find honest work to support himself, he turned to dishonest work. He would steal from people he knew to be deserving of such a fate, never from people he considered innocent. If somebody had wronged him or was known for wronging others, they were fair game but if somebody was just passing through town and ignored him, he let them pass. The unprovoked attacks (aswell as the few that resulted from him being caught) continued as the years passed on. Eventually one morning he awoke to find himself covered in blood with a bloodied knife laying on the floor next to his bed. A trio of town guard burst in and accused him of killing an infant elven girl, then attacked. He managed to put down one of the guards (with the knife he was accused of killing the babe with) before he was subdued and taken to prison. His trial was short and terribly one sided, the infants murder was desribed in detail and the false evidence against him was strong, the death of the town guard didnt help his case either. He was sentenced to a 5 years jail, then death. As he sat in his jail cell the first night, he thought over his life and as he looked at all the other inmates, he decided that enough was enough. Through more luck than skill, he managed to break out of the prison and flee the city into the surrounding forest. Thats pretty much the back story. This guy is going to be evil, he has just taken so much **** in his life that he is now only looking out for number one. His driving goal is that he wants to be live free and to be able to do what he wants, despite what anybody else thinks. He's not some nutter who goes round killing willy nilly, if somebody is nice to him, then (though hesitantly) he will be nice to them, and even act good to them. If somebody is an arse though, he doesnt hold back from giving them a beating. All hell breaks loose if somebody wishes to inprison him or tell him not to do something though... he'll go to any lengths to live free. So basically... hes a decent guy, just dont threaten his life or his freedom. As for stats im thinking wood elf from Faerun (+2 str/dex -2 con/int/cha... pretty much elf and half orc put together.. seems fair) but i might have to make up the special fetures.. help with this would be appreciated. Also, as for appearance, im thinking somewhat like the trolls from WoW (not the long nose). Tall with long muscled limbs (he has a very lanky look about him), sweeping back ears, big jutting teeth and light green skin. Im not sure on the hair yet. Any help with this character would be greatly appreciated, im looking to see if the motivation is fitting for a chaotic evil character, if it seems realistic enough (keeping in mind its fantasy), if it seems playable or not and help with the rules behind the character. Chiers in advace, sorry for the long read. Later |

If he's a "decent guy... just dont threaten his life or his freedom." then i would recommend chaotic neutral. You say if someone treats him nice, he treats them back nice... a chaotic evil person would accept the nice treatment but give none in return (or only give nice treatment in return if it served him in the end moreso), or even backstab the one who was nice for him... I'm envisioning that because he's seen only corruption, discord, and squalor that he should percieve all his actions as such -- that is all actions can only be taken in the context of corruption, discord, squalor, violence, greed, etc. etc. If your character embraces that, then you've got an evil character. Add that to your whole "don't threaten his freedom" and you've got chaotic evil. hope that helps... i had to write this quickly 'cause i have to go apartment hunting, but if you have questions/comments i'll reply when i can. |

Thats what i was hoping for :P Like, he is bitter from the treatment he retrieved, so i think he will have a strong dislike of elves and humans (bordering on hatred). Also, he is evil in that, he will plan out and commit evil acts if it gains what he wants. If the easiest path to that 50k gp gem is to pick pocket the guard and sneak in and steal it, thats what he will do. But, if it requires him to kill the guard he will do so, and if somebody tries to stop him on the way out, he doesnt have any problems with killing them either. Again, if somebody is just walking psat while he is making his escape (ie:the dont try and hinder him) he will let them go. As for the whole race thing, its more of a point of interest for me than an actual necessity for the character. The whole concept could very well fit a half elf, or a half orc... heck any race that grows up in a city mainly occupied by another race. As for class... im kinda at a loss, im thinking maybe, rogue, sorcerer, scout or possibly even a beguiler. Anyway, any more help with the character would be great, cos im really looking forward to playing this guy. Later |
| dragor_shadowfury05-18-06, 10:16 AM | talkin' 'bout a class, i think swashbuckler from CWor is a good choice, since its an urban combatant, its primarily using dex but also benefit from str. i think it should have darkvision, low-ligth vision and possibly bonus to spot or something (don't know if its balanced 'cause i'm seperated from my books). |
| nihility05-18-06, 01:28 PM | As for class... im kinda at a loss, im thinking maybe, rogue, sorcerer, scout or possibly even a beguiler. This is pretty much open at this point, since your background doesn't really deal with his education (whatever it was) or his skills. You mention fending off attacks, fighting with a knife (one of the few weapons that every class can use), and escaping prison, but, since you haven't detailed how exactly he accomplished these things, there's nothing really to base a class on. In other words, you've told us what he does, but not how he does it. His mother's wealth leaves training-intensive options open, while life on his own allows for careers dependent on real-world experience. Really, just about anything is open at this stage, so long as it doesn't require a good alignment. That said, it seems to me that socially-adept classes might not make sense. Even this might not be true, though, and perhaps he delights in manipulating those who once abused him. So, what's your image of how he works? Fighting with weapons, casting spells, twisting words, or something else - how do you see him? |
| monkmania05-18-06, 06:21 PM | sort of a stretch... but self reliant survivalist = ranger. Be an urban ranger with favored enemy human/elf? lots of skills to emphasize your "i do this for myself" motif, your a pretty good combatant to boot as well. |
| Fithero05-19-06, 02:42 AM | Scrap the whole elf orc thing... i want the focus of the character to be on his past and not his unique nature. He is still going to be chaotic evil, but will instead be a half elf. He grew up in a mostly human village (no elves) during a time in which that nation was in the peace talks with a elven nation it had previously been at war with. He found life to be unfair and he was often picked on for his elven heritage, he lived with his family (he was the only half elf in the family, his mother had an affair with an elven diplomat) of 3 children his mother and step-father (all human, he was the youngest). He was picked on at all angles, at home he was accused of tearing the family apart by being a constant reminder of his mothers infedility and in the town he was accused of being a spy and a feak. When he came of age he joined the militay in the hopes that the strict rules and intense training would keep others from picking on him, a place where he could find peace. Of course he found no such thing, since most of the military personel had served in the war against the elves, they hated him with a passion. He got through basic training and began to rise through the ranks due to his hard work and dedication, despite the constant insults and hurdles thrown in his way by his human superiors. He was about to be given command of a small unit when a small group of human soliders decided that they wanted him gone. They murdered a human in the village and set him up for the crime. This is where the story is kinda the same as the last verison, he is attacked by guards, court marshalled, inprisoned, he breaks out and is now on the run, wanted for murder of a child, guard and for going awol. Basic motivation is the same, to live free and do what he wants. Possible classes are either the scout or warmage? Any ideas on this new (and less complicated) version of a playable chaotic evil character? Later |
