| Finweg01-14-05, 02:32 PM | I am trying to come up with a stain in a dwarf family's honor. I want a dwarf PC to be part of a family that is being ostracized by its clan because of an action by the PC's father. Any ideas about what a dwarf might do to warrant being labelled an outcast and punished with heavy social sanctions? If it helps, we play in the Forgotten Realms setting and the dwarf is from Dammarra. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks |

He started to cast spells to clean the house, trimmed his beard and read about things like conjuration. Perhaps he actually conjured some monsters (monster summoning I) and scared the bejeezus out of the clan, was stoned and ostrasized. Your character wishes to renew the family honor and is the stereo typical Dwarf. Working in weaponsmith or armorer, fights in every possible skirmish with the Goblinoids and tries to be a model fighter. How does that sound??? |

During the ritual your father was severly burned or scarred, these permanent wounds remind him and your clan-mates or neighbours of what happened. Your father was on guard duty for some ancient relic or local temple or something, he dozed off after some pints and dwarven ale and woke up to find the temple raided by elves, drow or something. Maybe he can be a fallen paladin or a fallen cleric. Last but not least : your father is a bard that realy, realy sucks and everybody hates him for this. :yuck: |
| Hammer_of_Moradin01-17-05, 10:58 PM | How about these: 1. The father was secretly heavily in debt to someone and stole something of value from a clan mate to pay the debt off but was caught. 2. He killed a clan mate because of a slight given against him in a bar. 3. He knew that the new shaft being dug was dangerous but he purposefully witheld that information from another mining shift because someone he wanted dead was on that shift and they all died in a cave-in. |

| Finweg01-19-05, 01:32 PM | Thanks for all the ideas! I finally settled on the father stealing a relic that he was convinced would only harm the clan. Because he was the chief cleric for the clan, his disobedience to the clan was especially damning. Thanks again! |

Maybe the father now lives in Heliogopolis(?) with the !!humans!! and you're left on your own with your mother? Maybe he's there against his will? Or maybe he's there to imprison the relic? |
