AzurethesixbladeDragon 12-17-05, 10:49 AM	Im building a samurai for my friends campiagn. My friends campiagns are pretty tough and i need a strong hitting samuri. My group has been told that we start off at level 1 characters but we should have a plan for our characters up to level 6. I need help with making the character. I have the core books and the complete series(ie complete warrior, etc) We are using a 32 point build system and ive never played a samurai. i tried to build one but my dm said it needed to be rebuilt from the start.
Nerdicus 12-17-05, 12:30 PM	Samurai rock. I have found it usefull to take idea's from fiction or legend when dealing with the like. Have you read Shogun? awsome saumrai idea's come from that book. When making a samurai character its all about the honour, duty, respect and Zen. Think about family lineage and what weapon focus your charcter should have. Granted samurai's are Katana sword speacilist but maybe yours is great at bow shots from horseback.
erbmjw 12-17-05, 01:05 PM	Quick questions by strong hitting do you mean better roleplaying, better at combat, or both? I have played a few samurai characters - it's often important to your character concept to remember that "face" is very important. That or to have someone in your party who takes care of the "face" incidents that you may cause. In one campaign I was an intelligent but brutish samurai, not just a one-on-one combat brute but also a low-mid level war leader. Because of my family/clan and known absolute loyalty to the empire a much worked over pair of courtier samurai were assigned to "assist" me with courtly matters. All this lead to me being a totaly dedicated to die at the empire's behast killing/war machine - the character was completely LN - the empire demands it - I do it - the empire asks me to deal with a situation - I gave those involved with the problem my character's well known deal : 1 day to either agree with the empire's {or my characters, if the empire had left that in my hands} terms or to write your death haiku! In another I was a samurai queitly dedicated to the art of iajitsui { Quick draw Improved initiative - weapon focus katana- dodge -power attack - weapon specialization katana } I put Dex highest then Str - hit first hit hardest. My highest ranked skills were diplomacy and profession tea ceremony { the GM thought that certain traditional highly formalized court rituals could be allowed to use either a general or their own dedicated skill ranks{+5 bonus to the dedicated version}
