| Femur Toothpick03-04-04, 03:41 PM | I'm wanting to add some more character to this monk I'm playing. I don't play a lot of lawfuls and was wanting some interesting traits to play out in his personality. Looking for quirks, habits, preferences, fears, etc. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me out. Here's what I have so far: ---------------------------------------- He's 7th level, with the following abilities: S:18 D:16 C:13 I:12 W:16 Ch:10 Standing 5'5" and weighing a pretty hefty 132 pounds, this Wood Elf is built solid. His head is shaved with a long blonde braid extending from the back of his skull. His pale skin is covered in tattoos and has multiple piercings. He wears loose fitting dark gray robes that are brightly colored on their reverse side. He’s a quiet and polite individual, but radiates an undaunting physical strength as well as strength of will. His honor is as important as life itself. He is a Lawful Good Monk of the Sun Soul Order and a Wood Elf of the Suldusk Clan in the Wealdath of Tethyr (Forgotten Realms). He grew up protecting this massive and ancient forest, distrusting the constantly overturning rulership of Tethyr. His views were always a little off from the rest of his individualistic clan. He saw himself as a small piece of a huge puzzle. Upon finding the Monks of the Sun Soul, he feels he truly found himself. The monastery is a small organization where some humans and even fewer elves study the ancient writings of the Goddess of the Moon. Although he's not the brightest in his class, Aariesc is one of the strongest and most promising monks in the history of his monastery. To him the teachings of the Sun Soul are scripture and he'd be honored to lay down his life for his master's cause. ---------------------------------------- Can anyone help me out? |

Says his prayers in the same order every day, performs kata in the EXACT same sequence, etc. I would also have him be fastidiously neat and clean. His robes are always in good order, he never remains ruffled for long. His braid is always kept in top notch condition. All things are in place. If they are not, he is trying to fix them, whether they be within himself or in the broad world... |

Not everyone who is good donates all their wealth to charity and slaves and toils out of the goodness of their hearts - although some do. Lawful characters tend to adhere to personal codes, wether they know it or not. They have clearly defined morals which rarely change. They are likely to be oppinionated, but may not vocalise the specifics. In terms of quirks, I suggest making him a picky eater. Maybe he's used to mushy rice and water and doesn't feel the need to experiment with "tempting" foods. Give him a couple sayings that he sticks to, although not necessarily ad nauseum. Give him a twitch that comes out when he's nervous - maybe he hums under his breath when he's frightened, scratches his chin around attractive women, or cracks his knuckles before a fight. I once played a Dwarf who was fond of using his bare fists to finish off opponents. He also didn't like making a fist [which he called "lining up the ladies"] without hitting something. Once he made a fist, he HAD to hit SOMETHING. lol With his low charisma, I definetly suggest a tick or social nuance. With that strength of his, he should do a rigorous workout routine after any day that didn't involve heavy activity [such as combat]. ~Ginger |

Cracking knuckles before a fight, neat & tidy robes, immense pride and care for his long braid, bland eater with no need to experiment, daily rituals, social quirks ... All good stuff that give me even more ideas. Thanks Malavus & Ginger. "Lining up the ladies" - that's classic! |
