This has already been posted here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=375851) and here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=375850), if you want to bounce off things others have already said.

No "say 'arrr matey' a lot," please. :)

Here's what I've got so far: the character is a spoiled young nobleman doing the whole adventurer thing basically out of boredom. At the start of the game, he's considered one of the better sport fencers in the region but has no real combat experience. High stats will be dex, int, cha - as a noble, he's learned and cultured, and prefers guile and finesse to brute force. Dumps are wisdom and strength - as a fencer in terms of flavor and a Swashbuckler in terms of mechanics, he can afford to lowball strength and still be very effective in combat, and as for wisdom, I see him as someone who hasn't gone out into the "real world" very much. As for race, I'm leaning a bit toward Elf, though Human would work too. Halfling would be a stretch, and anything else is out for sure.

His noble house has shipping interests, hence his familiarity with sailing. Their major rival will eventually seize power and all but destroy them, thus motivating him to move into piracy to oppose them. Although I do see him (at first at least) displaying the selfishness, carelessness and arrogance often associated with nobility, he's a good person at heart and will be an honorable DP - his goal will be more to harry the enemy house and the royal navy that sanctions them than to just attack random ships for random loot.

Now what I need is some more ideas for a fleshed out backstory with plot hooks the DM can use. Having a bit of writer's block in that area. Thanks in advance to anyone who posts. :)

Oh, and if anyone wants to know, the setting is a modified Ebberon - same overriding thematic ideas, but with all the geographical, etc. particulars changed because the DM doesn't want us to know what to expect.
