Okay, my character is a Lawful Neutral Elf Wizard, named Tharivol Magehand. When he was 3 his home was burned down and his family was killed by a group of Barbarians. he was adopted by an archmage who introduced him to magic. Can someone give me some advice on how to roleplay him?

Being Lawful Neutral and having a background with the strong dislike of Chaos, he's more likely to be Authoritarian and his magic will be very regimented, with a lot of Metamagic Feats (if you use exactly 2 drams of owls beak, whilst holding your right arm at an angle of 33 degree widershins from the sun during the 12th hour after sunrise you can gain an increase of 2.5 times in the efficiency of this effect).
He will also look down on Spell Casters who aren't as regimented EG: sorcerers (Children playing with forces they don't understand).
And see chaos as a destructive force which will result in the downfall of society, and barbarians as representative of this.

Orphaned at 3? That is a bit of a stretch for an elf as they don't start adventuring until they are 110 or so. That is over 100 years of being raised by an Archmage. I would dare say that this chap would be aloof and a bit quirky. Living in the home of an Archmage for over a hundred years he would have a very odd perspective on reality. Arcane Magic is not the norm of the world, though it would be his norm. He grew up in a very arcanely charged enviroment I fer the world outside would feel very dead to him. This guy in a natural setting devoid of Arcane manipulation would be as uncomfortable as your standard druid in the overly engineered buildings of an uber civilized city.

He may be lazy. Being used to Unseen servants doing most of the menial tasks about. You gave us very little to go on. One thing is for sure. He feels absolutely naked without an ingoing spell and his spellbook in arms reach.

Look into Collegiate Wizard as a Feat, it's in Complete Arcane. If anyone has an excuse to know more spells it is this guy.

Hope that helps
