| J_Riley06-30-05, 10:51 PM | I'm pretty new at the whole character development thing so please be gentle. My PCs history to date (http://home.earthlink.net/~jriles/) A fellow I know used to game with my DM many years ago, so I asked him to look over what I had and give me his thoughts. This is what he said: "He (the DM) has spent a lot of time thinking about his world so he expects his players to spend a lot of time thinking about their characters. Not so much the nuts and bolts of them, as you like to think about, but the motivations, desires and hopes of a character. I think what you wrote is a great start in that regard. I think maybe you might want to include what brings you close to Myista and more about your spiritual connection to her." It is the last part there that I am kind of struggling with. Myistra is my Goddess. She is the goddess of magic and one of "The Ancients", the first gods of the world (2 total). His race and their love of summoning magic eventually brought ruin upon the world by gating in a powerful demon and it and it's minions basically plundered most of the Isles. Because of this, my PC is a transmutation specialist and has forgone Conjuration as one of his schools. He has, however, a quiet fanatisicm about finding out everything about this demon, this Abbadon. I don't know if that's too much, not enough or what, but I'll stop there for now. Thanks for any suggestions |

To further that you could give a couple of examples of how your faith carried you through an adventure or two (say maybe against a not so understanding druid encountered?) And also state why you chose to believe your mentors beliefs (give a few of his stories, and talk a little of his teachings and the values he installed in you which come from your dieties core values.) |

If I have seen demons I might think that they are far more powerfull them me or I might have realized that I might be killed. Just like everyone else. If the later there might also be, do I want to fight the demons or not? If I don't the demons is it because I don't view as enough of a threat? Is it because I have realized that I can have them as my allies or servants? Is it because I fear them? If I want to fight them, do I want to achieve enough personal power to threaten the demons? Do I want to raise all beings in the creation against these creatures? Or I might understand that demons are threat of times gone, the mistakes my ancestors will not be repeated in me. There is many paths to power. Only one of them is called conjuration, but whereas it is I corrupting I'm pure because I don't work with conjuration. My purity will make my generation a stronger one. And it will help us should any threat appear. Be it demons or anything else. Then I had consider the rest of my character's motives. Without knowing them we don't know why he is drawn to the mistress of magic. But I had say this, my ancestors worked with magic. I work with magic. Being closer to any god or godess other than Myistra would be wrong for me because it is she who provides me with my magic. It is in her name I invoke my curses, my enchantments and my evocations. Rather her being the most important diety for me she is the only one. I can't imagine placing any other god on her high pedestal. Because she provides me with why I live. |
