My DM says Bards suck. He plays since second edition and everytime someone says "Bard" he immediatly pictures the image of the bard from Second Edition Playershandbook which, and trust me on this one because I couldnt find a link, was ridiculous. I want to change his mind to at least something like this: http://www.poporing.info/ragnarok5/gazou/Bard.jpg

I'm making a Bard combining elements from this two threads:

http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=795369 Bardic Badass

http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=816095 Improve Inspire Courage and others.

So far I think I have something nice because all the work is almost already done. I dont need help with the build. What I want is to hear your opinions on what songs would be Best for the Bard to play (that I'll be playing in my cd player with some speakers pluged in)

So far I have this cd of The lord of the Rings with the Tokiens ensemble "an evening in rivendell" and "a night in rivendel" with the songs of the books. Also the Soundtrack from "The fellowship of the ring" and "The return of the King". All this songs are gonna be for creating atmosphere and flavor.
I also want to use some kick ass metal songs for battles and stuff

right now I have:
Emmerald Sword - Rhapsody
Destiny - Stratovarious
Holy War - Manowar

I want to hear all your suggestions for optimized flavor soundtrack for my Bard.

Sadly, mechanically he's right. Bards suck. They're worse than half-elves from a purely mechanical point of view. There are all of 2 prestige classes that are half-way decent for them (maybe 3 if you count virtuoso) and I'm not that impressed with Seeker of the Primal Song (yes it can be hugely over-optimized but that's not how I personally play). That said they have such extraordinary RP potential.

Print the following thread and let him know it's a bard beforehand. Errr print the first 3-4 pages that is.

I'm rather proud of Thurt (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=913906) as regulars on the board will tell you.

Oh yes. You wanted songs. That's been done once or twice on this board and we get some interesting results. I suggest looking through the opera metal section.

Check out some Heather Alexander. Her stuff seriously reminds me of bards in general.

http://www.heatherlands.com/seafire/index.html This is a link to some free samples of her music. Check the song, "March of Cambreadth". Its a pure folk battle song. Here are the lyrics:

Axes flash, broadsword swing,
Shining armour's piercing ring
Horses run with polished shield,
Fight Those Bastards till They Yield
Midnight mare and blood red roan,
Fight to Keep this Land Your Own
Sound the horn and call the cry,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

Follow orders as you're told,
Make Their Yellow Blood Run Cold
Fight until you die or drop,
A Force Like Ours is Hard to Stop
Close your mind to stress and pain,
Fight till You're No Longer Sane
Let not one damn cur pass by,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

Guard your women and children well,
Send These Bastards Back to Hell
We'll teach them the ways of war,
They Won't Come Here Any More
Use your shield and use your head,
Fight till Every One is Dead
Raise the flag up to the sky,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

Dawn has broke, the time has come,
Move Your Feet to a Marching Drum
We'll win the war and pay the toll,
We'll Fight as One in Heart and Soul
Midnight mare and blood red roan,
Fight to Keep this Land Your Own
Sound the horn and call the cry,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

This song I adapted from the Welsh folksong 'Men of Harlech' which can be downloaded from many sources for only a few dollars. It was used in a Living Greyhawk interactive 'Streets of Ruin' in Brisbane Australia in 2005, sung by 60 roleplayers at the start of the session to get the blood up.

Heroes of Perrenland – Marching Song of the Auszug

(sung to the tune of “Men of Harlech”)

Perrenland heroes march to glory, Victory is hov'ring o'er ye,
Bright eyed freedom stands before ye, Hear ye not her call?
At your sloth she seems to wonder, Rend the sluggish bonds asunder,
Let the war cry's deaf'ning thunder, Ev'ry foe appal.

Echoes loudly waking, Hill and valley shaking;
'Till the sound spreads wide around, the Old One’s armies breaking;
Your foes on ev'ry side assailing, Forward press with heart unfailing,
Till the Witch-Queen learns with quailing, Perrenland ne'er can yield.

Thou who noble Perrenland wrongest, Know that freedom's cause is strongest
Freedom's courage lasts the longest, Ending but with death!
Freedom countless hosts can scatter, Freedom stoutest mail can shatter,
Freedom thickest walls can batter, Fate is in her breath.

See they now are flying! Dead are heaped with dying!
Over might has triumphed right, Our land to foes denying;
Upon their soil we never sought them, Love of conquest hither brought them,
But this lesson we have taught them, Perrenland ne'er can yield.
