Hello and thanks for checking out my post. Me and some friends decided to get together and play a campaign based on The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy after stealing the idea from the d20 for Grins board, exploring the universe in all its weird glory. They'll have a ship like the heart of gold which will allow them to go anywhere, and any vestige of a plot can easily be generated when we've all got our characters sorted. Anyway we need any crazy ideas you people have got because all sorts of creatures are allowed. Heres some of very basic backburner ideas we came up between us...

1) Human who escaped Earths destruction.
2) A very Human-like Alien (Ford for example).
3) Star Trek-like race, like a Human but with weird forheads or whatnot.
4) Star Wars-like race, humanoid but with weird face and skin tones.
5) Translate a DnD race into an alien race, perhaps just take stats and make very monstrous or weird alien. Alternatively take a non-human PHB race and turn into a very human-like alien.
6) An Android (humanoid robot).
7) A Cyborg (living thing with robot parts).
8) Half-Human, one of its parents might of been alien.
9) Genetically-altered Human, perhaps an amphibious or half-animal one.
10) Mutant, a humanoid/human with weird mutations like extra limbs, weird skin and face, deformities, etc.
11) Artifically Intelligent machine, a non-humanoid robot like a talking monitor on wheels. :P
12) Psionic character, could be human or an alien.
13) An energy creature, perhaps made of mental energy or light. Perhaps its just a presence or a disembodied voice.
14) An elemental non carbon-based creature, silicon-based maybe, made of liquid or gas.
15) A physical mannifestation of an emotion or legend (like death, the spirit of jazz, the physical mannifestation of rage)
16) A supernatural creature like a Vampire, Werewolf, Zombie, Ghost. Might be an alien or a weird experiment/mutant.
17) A non-bipedal alien, like an intelligent alien quadruped.
18) A normal earth/alien animal imbued with intelligence and the ability to speak.
19) Someone from back in time transported to the present (a medievil french Knight in space, one of Atillas elite hun warriors, a very stupid but lucky WW2 soldier, etc)
20) Being from another dimension (the lego universe, the anime universe, etc)
21) An elder god/being created from reading to much HP Lovecraft. Probably not as powerful or terrifying as it likes to believe.
22) A physical mannifestation of a fictional character (baron samedi, robin hood, elan from OOTS)
23) An intelligent Hologram.
24) Anthropomorphic template to create an alien race or half-human/animal hybrid.

What do you think. Theres 7 players and we all need a character. The DM is using the Farscape setting classe's which include...

Aristocrat
Commando
Diplomat
Mystic
Pirate
Priest
Rogue
Scavenger
Scientist
Tech
Warrior

Any ideas?. Thanks for your time... :D

One of the players decided that after watching a comedy called 'The Mighty Boosh' he wants to The Spirit of Jazz, ie the humanoid physical mannifestation of the concept and ideals of Jazz. He's going to be huge deep-throated funky blackman with long-hair, baron samedi facepaint, a completly white suit complete with white gloves, and a magical white top hat thats always on fire but never burns. He says he's probably going to be a mystic with his magical trombone. Rediculous, but funny. However theres still six of us that need ideas... :)

Playing a Douglas Adam's type character is fun, but you're really overthinking this.

Try some of his lesser known characters as patterns. Especially, those from the Dirk Gently books. Dirk's "Zen Driving" might lead to a great pilot for your ship. A character based on the Electronic Monk, could lead into some interesting territory.

Also look at other sources of the zany- Monty Python's Flying Circus and Red Dwarf characters spring to mind. An odd tangent could be a human with a Muppet Show character's personality. Terry Pratchett's books are an excellent source for inspiration.

I see what you mean braindead. I only put those down because it was to accentuate that it was a sci-fi campaign, regardless of the humor involved, and these were the most basic ideas and options. Our own ideas are of course going to be completly rediculous. 1 of the players now has a new idea. A happy go lucky tramp from Birmingham, England. Ezekial Smith was brought up in a strict Christian household where he alarmed his devout parents by constantly and politely correcting their beliefs through logic and reasoning. They eventually had enough and kicked him out when he was 18 where he became homeless, and even happier than ever.
10 years later Ezekial was fishing when suddenly a heavenly flash of light appeared before him claiming to be God. After Ezekial proved he couldn't exist 'God' summoned a portal and transported him to another planet.
A bit basic but the player hasn't filled in all the little details and technicalities yet.
