I just came up with this backstory for an Elven Favored Soul of Pelor, and I'd like some feedback on it.

Kastain

In a small town called estancy, a little known camp in lower Naetare. It was a quaint sorceror town with random experts in crafts visiting, made up of mostly elves. It lived in peace for many years. The camp started in Arck, which is now a swamp, but that was over 100 years ago. Kastain, a young elf without a profession was wandering with his mother. Unfortunately, Kastain's first memory was to appear this day. They walked deep into the woods, when he heard a roar. His mother screamed and told him to run. He looked back as he was running and saw his mother be assulted by a Dire bear. She was killed instantly. Then, he fainted Next thing he knew, he was waking up in a cleric's den. Kastain only remembered bits and pieces of what had occured, but it was still enough to ruin his childhood. He blamed himself for what happened to his mother because she was teaching him more about sorcery when she died. Now, he was left with his wicked stepfather, Artt, who had traveled the land as a Fighter. His mother saw him as a wonderful man, but Kastain saw the truth: he was a horrid drunk. His mother tried to deny Artt's problem, but Kastain couldn't ignore the facts. Now that his mother was gone, he was sure that Artt's abusive gaze would turn to him, so he did the only thing that he could. He ran to Bastar, the cleric. Artt was against this idea, but he had no choice, not legally binded to Kastain's mother. He asked Bastar to teach him the ways of the cleric, but Bastar refused and told him to find himself in the wilderness. Kastain disagreed with this method, so Bastar decided to train him in the basics of wilderness survival and the intricacies of worshiping Pelor. When this started, Kastain was only 53. When he ended, he was 90. the 37years between seemed to fly by, but now Kastain was a young adult, and Bastar refused to train him any longer. This time, however, Kastain agreed with his mentor. He decided that it was time to see the world for himself, as his mother would have wanted him to. As he was leaving, however, Artt stopped him, telling him that he shall not go. Artt wanted Kastain to work for him, but Kastain refused and began walking away. Next thing he knew, Artt sucker-punched him. He didn't fall to the ground, but he was dazed. When he opened his eyes, he saw a mace in front of him. He reached for it, and when he grabbed it, time seemed to slow. As he felt it in his hand, he felt a divine power pulse through him. He swung it at Artt's head, but Artt jumped up and it hit him in the chest instead. He fell to the ground, dazed. Kastain dropped the mace and walked away from him. Next thing that he saw Artt was running at him, Mace upraised. Kastain feared the worst, but then he saw a dazzling light. It knocked Artt to the ground, unconscious. When the light faded, he saw Bastar with his hand raised and smoking. Bastar told him to leave quickly, before his father awoke again. He ran into the wilderness...

Sorcerer/Druid or Sorcerer/Ranger?

It is a good story, I must admit. Though I think it's missing something, I can't put my finger on it, though.

Favored Soul of Pelor, actually. hence the mace.

Probably lacks ease of reading; I got ideas and put them in as I was writing.
