| monai7505-12-07, 11:49 PM | I have been invited to start paying in a campaign based in FR. All player characters are starting at 3rd level. The problem is I wanted to play a rogue with a level or two in wizard or sorcerer. But! from the report I got from the DM, all the other players are playing either rogue/sorcerers, or rogue/fighters , or fighter/sorcerer. In a party full of characters with levels in rogue and arcane casting how can I play a character that stands apart and is exciting to play. I do not want to play a straight fighter that is not my style. Nor do I want to play a cleric and get stuck healing all of the other characters, seen that happen too many times. Basically, the campaign is based in FR, with no psionics (DM's rule, I already asked) and no players handbook II classes. So I am in a pitch and would like some suggestions please.............. |

Shadow theives of Amn, Shadowwalkers from Unopproachable East, Rundeen, Zhent, etc. 3: Underdark specialist (see 1) 4: Treasure hunter. Focus on Nar, Raumathar, Netheril, Impiltur, etc. 5: Rogue/Monk Unapproachable East for this one too. Has a slightly weak class for monks with weapons. 6: Church Rogue: not neccessarily cleric/rogue. In particular Shar, Boccob, and Mystra all have a number of rogues looking out to make sure their magic is used properly. 7: HARPER 8: Specialist. Exemplar prestige class. 9: Nobility Rogue. Silverymoon, Thay, Waterdeep, Luskan, and whole list of other cities where magic is a defining aspect of the rulers. Rogue just fits nobility anywhere. These are a few of the top of my head. What are the others playing? Any idea what sort of character you're going for in particular? |

I wanted to play a Full on wizard, with a level or two in rogue. But after I heard what the other party members where, I had to re-think what I want to make. I defiantly want some arcane casting, and I would like to have some specialist skills as well. But with every other character having levels in rogue I am not sure what to do. |

I'm not sure where to find it but its a PrC that uses magic to do in other mages. Good aligned ones are usually those appointed by Mystra's church to take out spellcasters who abuse their powers or the weave. A few levels of rogue can give it a nice boost since it grants nice bonuses to saves while focusing on spell that hit other mages weak saves. Alternatively see if your DM allows Tome of Battle and look at spellsword. Its not spellcasting but close and give you the rogue/fighter feel. |
