I'm planning on running a half elf who is accepted by his human side but seen as an abomination by his elven side does this seem acceptable? also would like to play a half fiend paladin is it possible and how should I do it?

I've been working on a similar character. He was raised in a human city after being booted out of the elf forest. Grows up as a CE Rogue/Urban Ranger whose favoured Enemy is Elves. There's a long story, but if you're thinking of going a different way, I won't bother.

The Half-Fiend paladin should be doable. The backstory that immediately springs to mind is a play on the "Hunchback of Notre Dame" theme. After a particularly brutal attack, a woman is impregnated by a fiend. She dies during childbirth. The child is taken in by a compassionate priest (despite the insistence of the townspeople and his fellow clergymen) and raised in solitude to be noble and virtuous. The character writes practically itself... Think Nightcrawler from the X-men.

EDIT: In the case of the Half-Fiend Paladin, I'd go with a Tiefling rather than applying the Half-Fiend template to something. Lower LA+, and doesn't necessitate an evil alignment

About the half-elves, is the oldest story around. Just check Tanis from Dragonlance. He's once asked why everyone's calling him "half-elf" and not "half-human". The answer: it's because the elves doesn't see him as a bastard, but as the half of a whole...

About an half-fiend paladin, it's harder, assuming you don't want to play a variant paladin of tyrany (LE) or paladin of slaughter (CE). An half-fiend alignment is "Always Evil." Which means 98.5% of them are evil. There's a slight chance that an half-fiend be Lawful Good, and a slighter chance he is a paladin. But that's not impossible. For example, WotC created Eludecia (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fc/20050824a), a Succubus paladin who was seduced by an angel, and who turned against her former kin.
