Ironically I just recently posted a story of a 1st level Monk Saumer. Well on his first mission out he died. So this is the background story of my new Half-Celestial Paladin. Hopefully he will have thstaying power to get through the lower levels.

On a midsummer's night the sky was lit up by colored lights that the astronomers explained as the effects of heavenly bodies. How right they were, except the bodies involved were not only heavenly but also diabolic. The lights that were witnessed upon the land were the results of an immense battle fought over the unsuspecting world below. The battle was to determine once and for all what force, evil or good would have dominion over the people sleeping below.

Amongst the forces of good stood a Celestial warrior that was a match for a score of Archfiends. His name is unimportant his actions will be forgotten. However the results will forever echo within halls of eternity. During the battle evil appeared to be slowly gaining an advantage, slowly but inexorably grinding the champions of good to dust. Granted to accomplish this the forces of evil lost many of their most powerful warriors, but the masters behind this battle knew the slaughter of their followers would serve them very well indeed.

The battle was reaching a frenzied pitch and the forces of evil although dwindled were cutting short the existence of the warriors of good. At this moment when all appeared lost, the unnamed Celestial did something that still cannot be explained. This warrior gathered the remaining forces and after a brief discussion started to meld into one powerful entity. As the hordes of evil hesitated this entity grew in stature and gave off a brilliant nimbus of light. Evil would not be cowed for very long for victory was at hand. So the countless horde crashed upon this form and eclipsed it light with their own dark souls.

At the moment of this monolithic eclipse there was a resounding crack that shook the world below. Moments later the sound of the crack started to gather a rushing wind. Before the evil that clung to this form could flee, an explosion decimated all the forms gathered in battle. Two objects hurled from this site. One surrounded by a golden light another with a crackling bruised purple color. Each streaked in opposite directions crashing thousands of miles from each other.

On a mountain pass near the Monastery of the White Orchid, dedicated to the Broken god, the golden object crashed into the mountain leaving a crater the size of a small tower in its wake. The locals, mostly students of the monastery traveled to the site to see what had caused such a spectacular pyrotechnic as it raced toward the ground. What they discovered was a small child standing amongst the rubble. They took the child to the monastery with such excitement, thinking that this child would indeed be something special.

As time went by the excitement faded, for no signs of greatness came from this child. The child like any other grew slowly and learned at no greater rate then any other. Soon the idea that this child was a gift from heaven left most of the Monastery.

The child was named Caritas and raised in the beliefs of Ilmater. Caritas showed no patience for the path of the priest or the contemplative nature of the monk. Caritas had a temperament of a warrior. Although he also had a very compassionate nature he was quick to anger and had little tolerance for those he viewed as causes of pain. Caritas grew to follow the path of the Paladin.

At the young age of seventeen Caritas took his vows and is eager to leave the only home he remembers to journey out and face down evil wherever he may find it. More important to Caritas then facing down evil was the hope that he would bring some solace to those who have been victims of evil.

Unbeknownst to Caritas, in his veins run the remnants of a holy host of celestials that fought years ago. Caritas is the fragment that was not destroyed on that battlefield, he is what evil could not crush, hope.

Yet there were two pieces that flew form those battlefield years ago.

Yes, I agree. That is a great background for a character of such nature. Very nice indeed!
