We'll I've been playing dnd for about 6 months now, dring that time i've had 3 signifcant characters but all of them were bascially my personality and what I would do in situations.

We'll now I'm trying to get into the whole role playing concept and my first idea was that I wanted to be a ninja from a small island SW of Fearun, on this island there are two leading clans and the island has NO forms of magic. When the other clan finds out about magic users on fearun they send out an emmisary to try to convince a few wizards to help defeat my clan. I'm sent to stop him in anyway possible. Fun role playing ascpet would be he's never experienced magic, doesnt really know the culture.

But no, my GM said that he'll only allow the PHB DMG and Players guide to FR.

So now I have no ideas :(

(just so you know I wanted to be heritic888's shinobi no mono class)

Maybe you could be someone who lives in a place that the Weave has been damaged. No Weave = no magic, and if he has never traveled away from home then he would have never saw magic before.

It's good to see a new player, and it's especially good to see a new player asking for help with roleplay rather than hacking things to bits. There should be more of it. Much more.

Of course, on this board I'm preaching to the converted. So, without further ado...

Find out if your GM isn't allowing the class, or the concept. Even if you're not allowed to use a particular class, skill or feat, you can still make the character you want out of other classes.

What's really important to roleplaying is the concept behind your class selections, skill ranks and feat choices. The concept usually hasn't got much to do with the mechanics - usually it focuses on things like who your character is and what they do. You can still play a perfectly fun ninja without it being at the top of your character sheet.

Well i thought it over a bit and i'm pretty sure the DM just doesnt want any non-core clas exeptions are FR classes. So I liked the idea of the broken weave. So i thought that over a bit and I think i'll make a melee character, who leave on some errand and meets a magic user (prob a wizard), he's never seem magic and is facinated by it. So later he wants to share magic with his entire village so he trys to find out whats wrong with the weave and how to fix it. He'll like amgic soooo much change classes to wizard later, and ill hopefully find a Prc that is like mixing sword fighting with magic (like being able to magicially enhance your own weaponry or mae runes or something.).

What do you think?

Always nice to see people wanting to make use of my class --- even if the DM shoots it down. ;)

To answer your querry, I would suggest alternatively multiclassing between the Rogue, Monk, and Fighter. Its not entirely exact, but you could somewhat approximate my class that way (to a degree, anyway). I would focus on Monk earlier (mainly due to its multiclassing restrictions), then alternatively go between the Fighter and the Rogue.

As someone else mentioned, it is the actual roleplaying (not rollplaying) that helps define your character here. Keep the flavah. :D

If the weave is broken no magic can be used in the area, right or wrong?

Well, it depends on how the weave is broken. For instance, in the Anauroch desert (a dead magic zone), the floating city of the Shades exists, most of whom are sorcerers. However, they access the Shadow Weave (Shar's magic), rather than the Weave (Mystra's magic).

It all depends on how you look at it. The Anauroch was the site of one of the biggest magical catastrophies in the history of Faerun, and magic is still cast there. You might say that the island is shrouded in mists, and so it's a demiplane that takes up space in Faerun's ocean.

Just my $0.01 (I'm too poor to pay $0.02) Happy gaming.

Maybe his village is built on an area where the Shadow Weave and the Weave interact in a bad way. I'm not very familiar with the workings, but essentially the two weaves rub each other the wrong way, weakening spellcasting in the form of requiring a Concentration check of some type. However, the check is passed by ten or more, it becomes Empowered, or Maximized if passed by 20 or more. This is to represent where the 'magical friction' gives way and unleashes a burst of energy, the same way an earthquake triggers when a fault line shifts under the pressure of each side rubbing each other in opposite directions.

Hardest part of playing RPGs is that players need to grasp the concept to ROLEPLAY, rather than acting the same sort of person in all characters, no matter what it is.
Playing yourself as a wizard, a thief, or a fighter is easy. All that is acting yourself with a change in skin.

Dont mean to sound harsh. Costructive criticism is hard to swallow, I had to face many criticism prior.
However, in addition to whatever class restrictions your DM has, think about playing your character as someone that is not you.

If you are male, play female. If you are more into physical approaches to hadling things, try a rogue for a change.
And so forth....again, this is by no mean to slam you. I have been there at one time when I first started.

I hope the best of luck and enjoyment in your games.

I like this idea.

I think the easiest way to simulate your character concept is to play the monk. The problem being that you can't multiclass if your DM is following the rules. It seems your best option, but you could just as easily go rogue, the sneak attack and skills seem a little better for your idea... Also if your DM lets up on the multiclass restrictions a monk/rogue seems like the bast combination.
