His father had taught him how to use healing/protective magic and a bow and kept him on a righteous path to help defend the people of the small village from outsiders who attack them. When he turned 16 he lost his parents to savage raiders and he then promised himself that he would guard the village and prevent any other child from feeling as bad as he did. One day as he was helping guard, a hooded mage rode into the village seeking something, no-one knew what he was after or where he had come from, he rode around searching and looking and eventually turned and stood at the outer rims of the forest. My character caught wind of what this mage was doing and seeked him out. As he began to challenge the mysterious mage, the mage turned and stared with a ghostly emptiness and walked forward on his horse, he then made a dash and grabbed my character stunning him. He awoke several hours later in the ruins of an old cathederal, he saw the mage studying his equipment by a small campfire, he instantly dived at the mage in fury, the mage cast him back with ease. Yet he kept getting up and attacking with what seemed against the mage to be feeble attempts and after one more attempt the mage finally stopped him and promised an explanation. The mage then explained what was going on, he had sought him out after he had heard of his parents deaths, he had over heard his great potential from the half elfs who looked over him. The mage now intrigued sought out the boy in an attempt to help him......? The mage then explained that he had underwent the same expierience as the my character and was only a few years older, he explained that he wanted to put a stop to these kind of raiders and that the only way to do it was to gather more power and destroy them. My character was quite wary of this as he was always taught use his powers to protect others, not kill. But he tagged along with the mage, winning many battles, gathering more friends and helping people and all seemed to be well. Then disaster struck, they heard word of a village in a forest being set ablaze, my character, grabbed a horse and rushed to help with his companions in tow. But by the time they got there it was too late, houses burning, families destroyed, death stagnant in the air he breathed, he left and ran into the forest alone, he eventually broke down only to find himself at his parents grave with only the thought of how he'd let them down. He could never forgive himself for what he had done and in time became cold and hid his head in a cloaked robe a wore a tight bandana around his mouth. He eventually rejoined his company and continued seeking out the vile people who had done this...... Any good or not? was thinking of eventually making it that the mage was behind the whole raiding and was simply driving my character insane in a bid to increase my characters powers so that the mage could use them for evil. Also when he was looking at his equipment he was possibly tainting/cursing it  Basically i want a half elf archer/healer type, basically like... a type of righteous fighter, who uses his powers to protect others but can still handle a bow efficiently. That was long.... i'm gonna go nap..... please don't tell me i should have posted this elsewhere  |

But its a sound character concept, i would make it that the mage is actually good and seeks to help the character. The whole "we suffered the same thing" is a good bond for your character to have. Whats with the hood and bandanna thing though? Also, just as a side note, it helps if you give us the race, class and level of the character, puts things in perspective. Peace |
| Kid_Buu08-20-06, 08:56 AM | This is just it you see i can't give a class, level etc as i'm unsure on actually devolping a character, thats what the whole seeking helps about :D Also in fluff terms this sounds like a very complicated character but will be very simplified in game terms if you know what i mean. I don't know if any of you will know a charcter from some of the basic d&d games, he was called jozan, he was a human cleric type guy, i used to use his healing/protective magic and he would also have a bow of some sorts. Basically i want that but not human, i want him to be a half elf and some different stats, as jozan was a simple pre-made character (he was just given to you). I just like hooded characters etc, it's just a weird preference :embarrass |
| Vietnow08-24-06, 07:03 PM | To tell the truth I quite like this story. It's good for a new player and i'm a DM who likes originality. Now enough compliments. If Jozan was what you had inspiration from then I say create a cleric for this character as well, they can be very skilled at being an archer and have very nifty abilities as well. As an alignment its already been established in a way. As you said he decided to guard the village to help his community. To me that screams Good and either Lawful or Neutral. Domains could be Healing for primary and Family for secondary if focusing on this story. Or, if you want a better character then Healing and Protection seem to fit for the concept you're looking for. I understand the hooded preference as well. It even extends into my real life! |
| Kid_Buu08-24-06, 07:17 PM | Thanks :embarrass I've decided to go with an elven druid as this should attain what i'm after :D As if i kept him as just a ranger i'd have to wait until level 4 for healing magic and even then it wouldn't be anything amazing, with the druid i can get it nearly straight away, plus it goes well with the whole forest-esque-ness of my character if you get what i mean :D |
| Overkil08-26-06, 01:19 AM | I'd say for level and race, go with an elven paladin. That gives you healing/protective magic and with the racial substitution level from races of the wild you can smite with a bow. I really like the backstory, but as alot of people have already said, it sounds like alot for a 1st level character to have gone through. |
| Kid_Buu08-27-06, 07:45 AM | What would be more reasonable? |
| Fithero08-27-06, 08:06 AM | id say up until the wizard takes him in, its a good point to start at (just suffered the loss, been protecting the town for a few weeks) and it give the character a pretty powerfull friend to fall back on. Hope this helps. Peace |
| Kid_Buu08-27-06, 08:27 AM | Yeah i guess that'd make sense, i'm just used to writing lots of fluff etc as i usually play games like inquisitor..... so i go slightly overboard :D |
