This one does however add some "half orc cliches" and could be a general annoyance in the group without being outright dangerous for his team-mates (as opposed to the drunken master/frenzied berserker I was thinking about before). ______________ Race: Half orc, Sex: Male, LN Background: Grew up in the ghettos of a major FR city, where he had to take care of his “brothers and sisters” (other half orcs, all a product of an orc raid 16 years ago). Appalled by the product of those “unions” the poor women who had to suffer the attention of drunk raiding orcs, gave up their half orc children to an orphanage led by monks. He early got a feeling of responsibility towards his “kin” and stood up for them in a fight with other children (and some times drunk adults) in the slums and at the docks. As the monks running the orphanage saw his great potential for the martial arts, they started training him in a more focused and refined method of fighting. His orc blood did however run thick and he called upon it in critical moments, giving him unsurpassable strength and endurance for a short time. This confused his monk tutors, who thought that only complete control of your emotions can lead to perfection in the martial arts. Action speaks more than words, however, and he could clearly take out many of the more disciplined human monk apprentices – even those that should have come further in their training. His fights in the slums had also taught him how to take advantage of every weak point of the opponent – no matter how appalling it may be. mechanics STR: MAX (20) CON: medium-high (12-14) DEX: medium-high (12-14) WIS: medium (12) INT: medium-low (8-10) CHA: low (6) 1: Half orc paragon (Power attack) 2: Half orc paragon (Rage(1x)) 3: Half orc paragon (STR+2; Extra rage) 4-20: Monk Rage-based special feats/PRCs open for lawful? 1 extra level full BAB gives 1 extra attack… (Orc paragon? Bear warrior? Street fighter?) Entrance scene: Prologue: The adventuring party (Elf wizard, Human rogue, Dwarf cleric ) is looking for an experienced fighter to guide and protect them during a mission to retrieve a holy artifact stolen by a band of bandits. In the city they get to hear about a monastery of highly skilled martial artists and that one of the students is eager to try out his abilities in the real world. As the adventuring party arrives to the monastery they are greeted by an old man named Lhou-Ze who shows them around, telling them about their philosophy and they also get a display of the impressive techniques of some of the higher level students (like punching their fist through a brick wall etc). He ends the tour by telling them that the student they are here to meet is at home preparing for the adventure ahead and that he wanted to meet them in a tavern near by. “he wanted you to meet the traditional way, like in all the stories” explains the Lhou-Ze. He also tells them some things about the student “he is very eager to get out in the world, poor boy…you see… he is not very strong and not a very big person” Then he starts to think about something and adds “but I am sure some fresh air and adventure will straighten him out and he will probably be able to handle anything you come up against”. (The rogue, who got the highest social skills, noticed how he emphazised the word “fresh air” and how the old man somehow seems quite eager to get this student out on an adventure). Later that day… As the party enters the tavern, they see that it is practically empty save from a huge half-orc drinking some kind of clear liquid (water, but assumed by the party to be something stronger) out of a glass, holding it carefully not to break it. His shirt is torn and stained by blood, most likely not his own, his face and other visible parts of his body are covered with bruises and old scars. His knuckles are bruised as if he had recently been in a fight. As the party enters he looks up, empties the glass without making a face and accidentally breaks the glass between his fingers. This seems to anger the big brute and he stands up and slams his fist in the table. He walks up to the party with a menacing face, bearing his yellowed fangs. As he stands up the party notices how big he is – almost like a caricature of how a half-orc is supposed to look like in stories. Most half orcs they have seen in the city have been pretty pitiful creatures living as simple thugs or beggars. This one however walks with confidence and determination. As he gets close the party notices that he stinks of old sweat. With a coarse voice he nearly screams at the party “hoo let da sirkus in ta town?” “Me wait for friends and me not like yoo” “You go now or I be angry!” He turns to the dwarf and pokes him in the chest “An Yoo…I not like yoo at all – dat ugly face-hair did yoo grow it tis morning or be yoo a girl… yoo never know with dwarves” He lets out a booming laughter at his own joke, which stops in a second and he stares at them again. “Yoo go now. I wait for important friends and I not want sirkus here den”. (all objections and attempts to smooth out the situation has been completely ignored) When it seems like a fight is near-inevitable, the bartender calls out to the half-orc using his name (the name of the student they are supposed to meet) and that he does not want another fight like the one he had here a few hours ago. As the party explains that they are the ones he is supposed to meet, he immediately changes attitude and lets out a great laugh”Why yoo not say so directly?” “We gonna be good friends and do big stuff!” He hugs the entire party (who feel an imminent need to take a bath) gives the elf a hard friendly slap in the back – a slap that leaves a big red hand-print under his robes. As the party explains that he does not look anything what master Lhou-Ze said, he laughs again “Old Lassy saying I am no big or strong again? He speaks riddles dat old man…says dat strong body not count…yoo should be strong in head” “He crazy – I beat up most his students! I prove strong body better dan strong head!” |
| staalmannen07-28-07, 02:15 PM | I forgot to add what I would like feedback on. 1) Background: Which FR city would be best for slums and a relatively large population of half-orc misfits? 2) Mechanics: Any good suggestions for PRCs or feats that could build on his unique combination of martial art focus and rage? (I am thinking that he will learn how to focus his rage almost like ki). Would like one more level full BAB class for power reasons. 3) Entrance story: There is not much to do about that now, ofcourse. This does however show some of his personality and what I would like is to build more upon that. What kinds of personality quirks could be cool for this character? Any cool prejudices? Any cool expressions? |
