| Mr.Musgrave07-22-04, 01:22 AM | Well, my poor cleric of fharlangan got slaughtered by a dragon tonight so it's time for a new character. This brings us to Nicolas Codswallop: Goblin Wizard Extraordinaire. I've had this little goblin wizard in my head for a few months now but I'm a little stuck on his backstory. Obviously he's not your normal gut-sucking goblin but I'm not exactly sure why. He has a high intelligence and decent wisom but he's a little on the frail side. He has a tricksters nature and a facination with magic items. I was thinking that maybe he was raised by a wizard or maybe even created by one. That seems a little plain-jane though so I was hoping you fine folks could throw out some ideas. If you need any other information about him, feel free to ask and I'll answer the best I can. Thanks in advance and please ignore any spelling errors. It's late and my brain is fried. Thanks again! :) |
| SoulLord07-22-04, 01:39 PM | some ideas a group of adventurers near retirement slayed a tribe of goblins but couldnt bear to kill the surviving childs and so one of them takes it with him perhaps a cleric of azouth god of magic the litle goblinoid grows up with a fascination for magic and the cleric decides to train him in its use. the people in the small village that he lives in are used to the litle fella but hes worried that if he ventures far away others will kill him just for what he is. nevertheless the curios fella one day escapes trying to see the world SoulLord |

| Ganurath07-23-04, 11:43 PM | My idea: A goblin tribe was one day, after brief resistence, sacked by an orc raiding party that was bored. The orcs, who not long before attacked a village, was being tracked by a party of adventurers. The party's wizard, a gnome illusionist, found a baby goblin amidst the rubble. The party's dwarf rogue wanted to kill it, so the gnome decided to keep it for now then have it sent to his old wizard academy to be raised and taught by it's headmaster. The goblin, named Nicolas Codswallop (after the Gnome Cod got walloped for sparing the goblin!) taught early in his youth about artifice and magic items, hence his fascination. His goblin nature made him a wily yet potent wizard, and with what skill he developed he managed to sneak out of the academy. |
| Kitt-su07-28-04, 01:06 AM | I love the idea adventurers would be so kind hearted as not to kill baby goblins (I look back at my bloody hands after we killed ALL the goblins). Its a little vague of the academy he goes to, maybe there he overcomes divercity amoung his fellow classmates. He might be a very prominent prankster in his class, but when a prank kills one of his best friends that he didn't even set up he is kicked out of the school (Adventure hook!). Theres me bit into the cauldron. :bump: |
| Giantslayer07-28-04, 04:55 AM | whooo, this guy just screams arcane trickster!! Maybe his "mentor" was killed in some freak magical experiment gone wrong, (codswallop obviously had NOTHING to do with it, as he will often point out, even when nobody asks) so young codswallop shrugged and decided it was time to go out and see the world for himself, (offcourse inspired of his mentors tales of his own adventures)... have him feel rather guilty for what happened to his mentor(codswallop obviously had NOTHING to do with it, as he will often point out, even when nobody asks) he just switched some of the ingredients for sneezing powder... just for the fun of it.. a pun gone wrong... Including EXTREME denial from Codswallop... he doesn't want to remember it that way... So now he's out in the world to spread joy and laughter.... (though some pranks OBVIOUSLY go wrong...) Hope I helped.. cya -me |
| zioth07-28-04, 01:44 PM | Maybe his tribe had elven neighbors, over whom they frequently tried to get an edge, but they were always beaten back by the magic-users. Unlike his stubborn goblin friends, who just mounted unsuccessful raid after unsuccessful raid, he decided to study magic himself to give his tribe an edge. |
| Sisyfos07-29-04, 08:46 AM | Originally posted by SoulLord some ideas a group of adventurers near retirement slayed a tribe of goblins but couldnt bear to kill the surviving childs and so one of them takes it with him perhaps a cleric of azouth god of magic He would probably grow up hating all humans and especially adventurers for killing his whole family. |
| CaoSlayer07-30-04, 06:49 AM | disney fantasia twisted: Once, a wizard had a helper, a goblin. firstly he was just the "maid" of the wizard but with the time, learned to read and started to use the magical books of this master when he was outside or sleeping. until a day where toying with a book, casted an animate object spell and the objects went berserker and destroyed most part of the wizard´s lair. and so the goblin run away with as many items and knowledge as he could gather and is hide hopening to be not found by this former master. |
| Mr.Musgrave07-30-04, 08:24 PM | Wow, you guys are full of good ideas. CaoSlayer, I like your idea for how/why he ran off. I'll definatly be working all of this into the story somehow. Thanks a ton! Sisyfos: If the goblin child was raised from birth to know the difference between good and evil I doubt he'd automatically hate all humans. If he was taken at a point where he was aware of things, then yeah. |
