History:
edit: I realized I never included the Wizards name. It's Ethan Windsong.

Fifteen years ago, Noah was born into a family of well-to-do farmers who would meet a good deal of misfortune. Noah was born healthy, but his mother died in childbirth and this incident sent his father, Patrick into a deep depression. As early as three, Noah was out doing what he could on the family farm from dawn until dusk. This was going to be his ‘punishment’ for the next eight years, as his father believed Noah the reason his wife was no longer of this world and planned to work him every day until he died. His elder brother, however, was treated like a prince. Patrick had the highest of aspirations for his first born and it wasn’t long before it was arranged for him to join an Order of Knights representing some self-righteous deity whose name Patrick couldn’t even pronounce. What mattered to him was the prestige he would achieved as a result of his firstborn.

During the years in which his older brother was off training for his future, next to nothing happened in their small town. It was quiet but hardly peaceful as his father began to turn to alcohol when he got tired of beating Noah to a pulp. When Patrick was impaired as a result of his drunken condition, Noah was allowed some manner of freedom in which he used to try and educate himself. It might seem like a stretch to believe that a simple child could manage to understand the written word of languages he’d hardly ever heard of much less been exposed to but before long he could do just that. It also didn’t take long for the people around town to notice Noah’s intelligence. When he no longer could rely on what little his father possessed in terms of books, Noah found himself venturing across town in the hopes of procuring something new from a local eccentric who he’d been told had a small library of books.

It wasn’t the first time Noah had met with this gentleman, having seen him around town several times previous. Noah also remembered his older brother once taking him to see this man put on a magic show during a festival the town held a few years back. When this wizard became aware of Noah’s intelligence and unbridled interest in obtaining as much as possible, he offered the young man access to the books in his possession. When he inquired as to why Noah wanted to know so much about the world, he honestly informed the wizard that if he would never be able to see the outside world he wanted to at the very least be able to read about it. Upon bidding the young boy goodbye, he bestowed the eleven year old boy a book concerning the surrounding kingdom and it’s rich history as well as a piece of parchment with the strangest of languages printed upon it. “If you can decipher this by tomorrow,” he added, “I’ll impart to you everything I know.”

Though Noah had no idea this wizard planned to teach him magic, he was greatly interested simply in the task of deciphering this ‘scroll’ as well as the dozens of tome’s he’d gain access too if he succeeded. Noah never returned home that night but instead found himself cooped up in the town’s tavern for the next few hours. It took him a while but before long Noah managed to make out the strange writing. It was around midnight when he completed his work, yet just as he was about to leave, his father arrived at the scene.

Shouting drunken profanities in a vane attempt to discern where his son had been all day, Patrick grasped his son by the scruff of his neck and threw him out into the street. As Patrick began to tear apart the book Noah had been given by the wizard, he grew increasingly angered and began to fight back. Upon striking his father however, Noah felt something sharp scrape against his collar bone. Falling to the ground, Noah found a small dagger had lodged itself in his shoulder. As he stood, clutching the scroll in his fist, Noah began to read from it and from his outstretched hand shot a bolt of energy shot itself into Patrick’s torso, pushing him back against the wooden wall of the tavern, knocking him cold. Prying the dagger from his shoulder, Noah tossed it aside and disappeared into the night.

Arriving at the home of the wizard he’d met only hours before, Noah collapsed upon the doorstep just as the door had opened. When he awoke, it was morning and apparently several days had passed. The wizard was there in the room with him and turned to Noah as he awoke. “I’m sorry to have caused you trouble…” He muttered, checking on the wound in Noah’s shoulder. “Well, I’m a man of my word. If you still want to learn magic, I’ll do what I can to assist you in this matter. Maybe someday you’ll even see the outside world and not just have to read about it.”

“Learn magic?” Noah asked, having never considered such a thing. After a moment of silence however, an overjoyed Noah simply nodded and smiled slightly before leaning back on the bed. It was a week before he was able to move about but in that week Noah had already read nearly half of the books he now had access too and was beginning to manage some minor magical tricks. He learned that in his absence, Patrick had called for his firstborn, Alexander to return in the hopes of keeping the family farm up and running until be could muster the strength to work again but as it turned out, age seemed to finally be catching up with him. Noah did meet with his elder brother on several occasions during the next few months but for the most part he tried to keep his distance from anyone connected to his past life and that included Alexander

It wasn’t long before Noah was treated just like the wizard who now served as his surrogate father by the people around town and they certainly didn’t take well to him following the rumors surround ‘what really happened’ that night he left his old life behind him. By the time he was fourteen; Noah had mastered several languages, memorized every book in the wizard’s library and was even managing to cast more powerful spells. Proud at his pupil’s progress, the wizard adopted him fully and began to treat him as a true son.

In the hope of correcting the rumors spread by his father in regard to his reputation, Noah began to assist the community in whatever he could and began working as a messenger between his hometown and the next town over. Noah was finally able to venture outside of his small village and this brought him untold joy. Now fifteen, Noah managed to gain the friendship of the majority of those in his hometown and though this came at the expense of his father’s reputation, Noah could honestly care less.

Personality:

Noah Windsong harbors a deep hatred for his real father, Patric and because of this he also tends to mistrust the intentions of his elder brother, Alexander who reminds him of his father. Because of the circumstances surrounding their parting, Noah finds himself often unable to describe his father without using a number of profanities.

Noah does not believe in fate or luck or rather chooses to make his own. He is sickened by anyone who relies solely on others for salvation or support and urges others to stand on their own two feet. That being said, he will help a comrade or the helpless but does not go out of his way to do so unless there is something to be gained for his efforts. Note: This pertains only to serious matters, not helping people with the everyday.
Young and impulsive, Noah often does things without thinking and though he is not naive, he is lacking in common sense. Noah dislikes drinking(ale, beer, etc.) believing in brings out the worst in people(and sometimes reveals one's true side, i.e. his father). He will, however, partake in small ammounts of wine every now and then.

Being an illuisionist, Noah likes to impress others with his illusions and captivate his enemies so that he might escape unharmed. He has a longsword with him at all times, though his ability to use said weapon with any degree of skill is often called into question. Noah would much rather use his magic to ensare his foes then rely on metal to vanquish them in battle.

Appearance:

He may be a wizard, but Noah hardly looks the part. With a heavy gray coat over his colorful attire and a sword at his side, Noah looks more like a dashing rogue then a mage and often uses this to his advantage. Though he is not overly tall or muscular, Noah is an attractive young man with long blonde hair and naturally tanned skin. He adorns himself with a multititude of objects which he collects in his travels, a small talisman, a ribbon on his upper left arm, all of which have a story.

So, any comments/critique?
Chaotic Good or Chaotic Neutral with good-leanings?
Also, how best should I play an 8 Wisdom?

that's one nice story you've got there, and i think that you already figured out playing how you should play a wis 8 character the way he mistrusts his brothers intentions.. he might just mistrust alot of peoples intentions.

Thanks. I'm still not sure of his alignment, however.
I might not have mentioned this but his brother is a Paladin PC played by a friend of mine so this will be interesting.

We've already had one session and after being confronted for... killing a group of men outside of town(who did attack us after we refused to pay a non-existant toll) arrested much of the adventuring party. Being the LG Paladin, Alexander allowed himself to be taken, I suppose in the hope of explaining the situation. I however, created an avenue for escape(though clever use of a prestidigitation spell) no one else in the party took so I may have to break the party out of jail.

I'd go for the chaotic good alignment to be honest, you do give about rules and about you do tempt to try and help people every ones in awhile, else you might get into trouble with the awfully good paladin if your trying to choose for yourself, and i assume you had a good reason not to trust the people that attacked you, becaus you probably had to make a sence motive check for it. right ?
