Rather than casting him as a blood-thirsty tyrannical murderer, he's more of a conceited, somewhat shallow warrior who views Hextor as a suitable god of battle and strength. It'd be interesting how such a character reacts to good-aligned characters attacking his deity on moral grounds.... "hey, I don't go calling YOUR God an 'evil tyrant.'" |

Well, since hextor accepts LN clerics youre not so far from your god alingment wise, IMHO your Char probably agress the ordered vision of hextor, and maybe his love for battle. |

A neutral or even good aligned character worshipping an evil god shouldn't be a major upset to gameplay or balance. Many commoners and non-clergy of good intent worship evil gods out of fear or out of respect for that fear. Sometimes it is best to be in that deity's good graces when the true evil befalls men. |
| thegentlemanclonetrooper11-24-03, 08:11 PM | In the PHB it says that Grumush has nonevil half orc followers who worship him as a tribal war God. I would not let it lag down the game but it can create some great roleplaying .A LG paladin trying to convince the CN barbarian that the God of Slaughter is more than a God of glorious battle and in fact revels in the slaughter of innocents. A LG worshipper of Wee Jas who worships her as a God of Law and Magic arguing with the LE worshipper who Worships her as a God of Death and Law. I am inspired. I think the Half Orc I am thinking of creating will be a CG fighter who worships Grumush as the Orc's War God. Her good heart did not get her killed becuase she could beat down her rivals. Finally she got sick of it but even though she left she still worships grumush. She kind of has the same relationship with Grumush that Conan had with Crom."Give me strength o Grumush, but if you won't then screw you." Enough Rambling.Hope some of my babbling helped Gentleman Clonetrooper |
| Arilou_skiff11-25-03, 12:38 PM | I imagine your gladiator would view Hextor as a sort of "Tough Love" god, Chaos must be kept at bay and Hextor does that nicely, Heironous is too weak to do the job. |
| Ornum11-25-03, 04:59 PM | I've always like the idea that gods are never truly good or evil. Let me explain. A god acts the way he or she does because they are a combined representation of their various areas of control. By this arguement, it assumes that ideas of good and evil are mortal constructs, and as such are applied to the various gods by mortals. A god of law and murder, for example, would be considered LE as far as mortals go, but in reality they are just acting according to their portfolios. Using this way of thinking, however, still limits what alignments worship what gods. A CG character would never worship the above god as their chaotic view would conflict with the diety's domain of law and also their belief in what was "good" would never condone murder. Of course, using this way of thinking doesn't really apply to certain campaigns, such as Planescape where the planes themselves are based on belief and anything resembling Forgotten Realms, where some gods are former mortals, thus taking their mortal beliefs with them when becoming gods. |
| Morka11-25-03, 08:04 PM | After all, most of halfling adventurers are Chaotic Good, and they have 3 major deities who are LG (Arvoreen, Yondalla, Cyrolalee (sp?)). Your gladiator could pray Hextor because it's his job to fight, but as soon as he exit the ring, he could then pray any other god. |
