 Hey all, I'm new to DnD and am really liking it so far. I have a few question.

First, as a DM, how do you know if a player hits a new level? If so where are the XP charts i have all kind of charts with the monsters XP but not one that says "level up". I've been all over the net and never found one.

Second, Does this forum have a word search or do you just have to go through page after page of stuff you dont want to look at?

The XP chart is somewhere in the first chapter or so of the PH, or you can check in the SRD

It's at the begining of the Classes section of the PHB.

this website is the SRD

http://www.d20srd.org/

It has a lot of game information printed that is from the books.

http://www.d20srd.org/encounterCalculator.htm

This page is to calculate experience.

On the right side, you would put how many people are in the party (Group of adventurers, generally just the players) and their ECL.

ECL- Effective Character Level
The ECL is how many class levels plus monster hitdice a character has. If your new, your probably only using core races, such as orcs elves humans and dwarves and the like. In this case, your ECL is simply your level in all your classes added together.

The colum on the left is used with the number of monsters, and their CR (Challenge Rating)
When you find a monster in a book, such as the Monster Manual, it generally will have a CR among it's list of stats. That is what goes in the CR list.

To find a chart of experience, I believe it's the first or second page in the chapter for classes in the Players Handbook. (PH)

Hope this helps.
