| Gloom of the Night03-25-04, 02:35 PM | This post is moved from the DM board, to see if it could get some more traffic. The object of this board to make up some NPCs to add some flavor and variety to a game witt as little work as possible. Check it out! | Asi the red03-27-04, 04:24 AM | Hey ya'. Looks like I have the dubious distinction of having the 1st response to this freshly relocated thread. Yay me. This is a guy that I drop in every once in a while to see how the party's doing. They already know most of his stats and abilities, so it won't matter if they see him. Thom D'Aringale, Last Lord of the City of Glass (created with 4d6 drop low die, no fudging, no re-rolls. Not sure on the gear, kind of just gave him what I thought he should have.) Psionics Handbook. Single Use item. Appearance: Thom is a dashing young man with a ready smile for the ladies and a ready jest for the men. Dresses always in his set of Everclean clothes done in blood red and brilliant white (which he wears his Mithril Shirt under), with polished till they gleam calf high black leather boots and fingerless leather gloves. He also sports a red headband with long thin ends that wave almost a meter when the wind gusts. He is tallish, standing 6' 4", and blade thin at a meer 160 pounds. Thom has bright blond (almost looks bleached) hair that he usually wears shoulder length, but pulled back by the headband, and piercing emerald colored eyes. He carries anything he's not wearing in the sack, which he also uses to carry any spoils he's collected. Personality: Thom always appears laid back, like he's on a permanent vacation, until something that he considers a sufficient challenge motivates him. Once motivated he will stop at nothing to see that challenge met. He attempts to avoid being the center of attention, unless it's being held by someone with obviously poor musical talent, at which point he will politely (if the other person is female) or impolitely (if male) steal the spotlight until someone better shows up, at which point he accepts a supporting tune and lets the person with better musical talent take the spotlight. Thom occasionally drinks too much, becoming quiet and morose when drunk and will flat out reject any challenges put to him while in his cups. He flirts endlessly with any attractive young ladies, unless they make it clear that they don't want him to, and one of the quickest ways to find his blade at your throat is to insult a lady while he's present. Goals: Thom is the last living lord of the City of Glass, a once magnificent city with buildings and towers constructed of beautiful colored opaque crystal, that has been occupied and corrupted since his childhood by the remnants of a demonic host that stormed the city from the Wasteland. It's once flawless towers are now hunched and bent under the weight of their own corruption. Thom dreams of one day returning to cleanse his city from the things that occupy it now. He just needs to be stronger to do it, and some help couldn't hurt either. This is the reason he adventures: One, to become stronger, and Two, to scout out prospective aid that he might one day need. Combat: In combat with weaker opponents, Thom often forgoes the use of his Parry feat, allowing his opponents to connect with hits that otherwise wouldn't make it through. He also rarely uses his Iajitsu skills against weaker opponents, unless they have shown themselves to be exceptionally resourceful. Often, he will fight one opponent until it is disabled, and then turn on another, allowing the first to withdraw from the combat. Against opponents more his speed, he will try to use his Sense Motive skill to determine who the most dangerous opponent is and will throw himself at that opponent, foregoing weaker targets for a shot at the biggest challenge on the field. If he has time, and he suspects the opponent will be challenging enough to warrant it, he will use his one Shard of Iajitsu Focus and then pray that he acts first (this is the only situation that he will without a doubt use ambush tactics, which he otherwise abhors). In combat against lesser opponents he will make remarks about their fighting style/ technique, critiquing them as he fights, telling them to not let their guard down after scoring a hit on them, etc. Against equals he fights with steely resolve and in utter silence, letting his blade do all the talking. When impossible overmatched he fights with reckless abandon, laughing and making jokes, shouting and screaming incessantly, always on the offensive, always trying to land one last blow before the end comes. Iajitsu Deuls: Many don't use these outsid of an Oriental game. I do. When victorious, he always renders medical assistance to the fallen (he also does this after defeating opponents that are significantly weaker than he). Thom can be found anywhere at any time as long as the possiblility of a good fight exists. Climate and terrain don't matter to him, as he travels the world to the current 'hot spots' of activity, searching for a game worth his time. Guys, if you read this, no sweat. If you end up using Thom in your game, e-mail me and let me know how, I can always use the ideas. Asi the Red. |
