| RevIron05-04-07, 11:13 AM | I've been having trouble working out a reason why the two characters below wouldn't be married as far as the wife's faith was concerned if they only had a ceremony in the husbands. I've also been having trouble working out why they'd only get married in his faith and not in either her faith or the state faith since they're royalty. And why she hasn't killed him yet remains a mystery to me (he hasn't because he wants her to give birth to their son first). Any advise on these three points (if they where rephrased as "Why" quesiontions) please? As to how they got together in the first place - it was traditional for their families to marry and probably an arranged marriage. Why would the wife's faith not consider the marriage legitimate? - Hextor = Tyranny. Would you consider Tyranny a fitting blessing to your marriage? Besides, Obad-hai is a nature faith so may only respect nature-bound marriages (Enholla, druidic). What is the state faith? (too lazy to research). As for not marrying in the bride's faith, it could be simply the husband being demanding and authoritarian - the guy does worship Hextor, that does lead to an autocratic mindset. We need more personality to the wife - how determined and strong-willed she is. Perhaps she wants to see the best in her husband and is hoping to change him for the better? Perhaps she simply wants a father for her son? Perhaps she hopes having a child will change him? Perhaps killing is simply a big step for her? Many people oppose the practice of killing, she could be mildly pacifist. |
| RevIron05-07-07, 06:55 AM | Sorry for the delay, but I'm generally not online over the weekend. Obad-Hai's faith don't recognise the wedding due to the fact that it's imposed by the follower of Hextor and doesn't require the consent of those not of the faith. In fact most faiths don't recognise Hextor's religous rights for this reason. State faith - I don't think it's actually stated in the linked article but is implied to be (as it actually is) Corellon Larethain The main reason for this thread is to develop the wife's personality, the four suggestions you've made seem like things that the wife would agree with - She wants to change everything for the better, not just her husband. She wants a father for her child. She hopes having a child will change him. She has reservation about killing, mainly due to her upbringing. |

If so, there may be political pressure to hold the marriage in a church of Corellan Larethian. |

Good question, something I haven't really considered, I think it's more of an archaic law as most nobles are split between Hextor and Obad-Hai, so they're much more likely to push for a Church of Obad-Hai wedding - which unlike the Church of Hextor one would be recognised by the Church of Corellan Larethian. (Basically the High Priest and his direct underlings). |
| RevIron05-24-07, 12:34 PM | Follow Up Q: Her main hobby is writing "Herbals" and she also spends a lot of time painting - so she has a creative side, but why does she channel it into these specific fields (apart from the whole her mother was a druid thing)? I know she enjoys painting - and probably sketching the illustrations for the book - but I want to go deeper. |
