| 1DHandful01-04-07, 09:47 PM | Kevex fights with a melee weapon - a maul - because he views the act of archery as impersonal cowardice. Although he carries a throwing axe and a dagger for emergencies, he'd prefer to go toe-to-toe with an adversary. When encountering what he perceives as a truly helpless person, whether an orphan or a blind man or an oppressor's prisoner, he is generous to a fault. He will pay his last copper to give the orphan a meal, donate a potion to cure the blind man, and fight to the death rescuing a prisoner held unjustly. Conversely, he has little patience for those in more fortunate circumstances asking for help. Given the option, he'd use cure minor wounds for an ally who was gravely wounded but not unconscious, berating the ally for poor tactics or planning because she didn't have a way of healing herself. While he will wade in to battle to help an ally who is overmatched, he will do so loudly protesting the need, and will lecture his ally on making better decisions after the day is won. If it matters, Kevex can cast divine spells. |
| DaemonSaDiavlo01-04-07, 11:23 PM | Well definately not any of the evil choices. Hmmm. In my opinion you could play it many wyas but he seems to me to be Neutral Neutral with good tendancies, or Lawful Neutral with Good tendancies. He could be viewed as chaotic, but in my opinion the whole idea on lecturing ally's when they make a mistake scream's lawful to me. |
| Fithero01-04-07, 11:49 PM | Id say he is good, though im unsure as to what you would make him on the law-chaos axis... it would depend on how you play him. It seems like he helps people no matter what, but berates them if he believes they got themselves into trouble in the first place. To put it short... he sounds like a good guy.. just not a nice guy. Peace |
| LeannaMoonbody01-05-07, 03:27 AM | To me your character sounds like Chaotic Good. If he was lawful, then he would trust the law to get the prisoner that is being held unjustly off. Sounds like this character is good to a fault, hence CG. |
| Adrian_Crane01-05-07, 01:27 PM | It sounds like he'd wade into combat to help an ally not because HE wants to, but because it's necessary/expected. That sounds far more Lawful than Chaotic, since he's not obeying his personal impulses. Honestly, to me he sounds LN with good tendences, or LG with a wide pragmatic/realist streak. More LN I think, since he helps when he can but doesn't actually run around crusading for good (or does he?). As to busting a character out of prison, the key word was "unjustly." If he is convinced the prison system is unlawful, then as a lawful character, it is his *duty* to amend such a fault. At least, that's one way to look at it. He'd make a good follower of St. Cuthbert, imo... |
| vinny_rex01-05-07, 04:52 PM | Sounds like this character is LG with tendencies towards being a prick. Sounds fun. |
| 1DHandful01-05-07, 08:44 PM | So, Kevex has potential to be a paladin without violating the code or changing his ways? He's fighter 2/cleric 3 (Kelemvor), staring prestige paladin's prerequisites in the face. |
| Adrian_Crane01-05-07, 08:46 PM | I'd say yes. He's rough around the edges and a bit harsh, but he sounds LG to me. It'd make for an interesting, atypical paladin, at any rate. Remember, "Good" doesn't necessarily mean "easy to get along with." :D |
| 1DHandful01-05-07, 08:50 PM | Cool. He's CHA 12, so not the leading candidate for winning friends & influencing people, but not a total prig. Max ranks in intimidate to boot. |
| Deathcow3801-07-07, 12:02 AM | First instinct is LG. @Adrian Crane- who says you have to actively run around "crusading for good" to be good-aligned? Sure, Paladins do it, but that's a whole other argument. Being "good" doesn't require evangelism in and of itself, just like being evil doesn't require that you kill orphans on a daily basis. |
| theotherdraxen01-08-07, 10:43 PM | @Adrian Crane- who says you have to actively run around "crusading for good" to be good-aligned? Sure, Paladins do it, but that's a whole other argument. Being "good" doesn't require evangelism in and of itself, just like being evil doesn't require that you kill orphans on a daily basis. Well, the PHB, but I regard the alignment descriptions as flavor-text. If you do not actively pursue good things and good deeds, then you are neutral, because your convictions aren't strong enough to be genuinely good, just like someone who thinks evil thoughts but doesn't have the genuine desire to commit evil deeds isn't really evil. A good person would actively pursue good deeds as much as an evil person would actively pursue evil deeds (what kind of sad BBEG would sit around and only commit evil when it was convenient for him?). I can see this guy as LG or LN, depending on how his convictions play out. If he is LN, his code is 'good-based', but he doesn't follow it for good reasons. Kind of like a construct that is programmed to do good things. |
| Daxen01-12-07, 04:27 PM | He seems LN with good leanings to me. He could become a Paladin, but he would have to clean up his act a bit. As much as helping orphans and blind men is great, because they need it. Belitling an ally for their unpreparedness is not a good act. Helping them be prepared next time is the good act. He definitely has a code that he follows and believes in the utilization of personal power. To make the transition to Paladinhood I think he would have to lean more toward helpful and less toward insulting. There is a difference between. "Get your shield up dummy!" and " Lift your shield to meet the blow, like this." You don't have to be polite to be Lawful Good, but you really should be as a Paladin. |
| sloth205201-12-07, 06:25 PM | I would go CG. The whole prisoner thing is what did it for me. Helping his allies and such is is a good aligment thing. The whole chaotic thing comes from him going into battle and helping heal and such. Just because he lectures his companions does not mean he has to be lawful. A barbarian could just as easily say you suck cuz you weren't prepared as a paladin could. |
| Adolph_Kheebler01-13-07, 07:33 PM | I'd see that as LN. |
| strenoth01-14-07, 12:22 AM | borderline between LN and LG to me. |
| 1DHandful01-18-07, 08:48 PM | It's interesting to me that LN gets only slightly more votes than CG. I'd think those two alignments were pretty far apart. Regarding the whole 'prisoner rescue' bit: the person rescued was a local guildsman and town council member, captured by wild elf vigilantes. Picture Elan's captivity in the woods in OotS for the organization that had him. 'Imprisoned' wasn't meant to imply 'awaiting a trial by duly constituted authorities'. |
| marcel_deathbringer01-19-07, 12:30 PM | Hmmm...I would have said NG. I can totally see the lawful good, but something about him makes me lean toward NG. I really don't see the CG however. |
| TalinXT01-19-07, 01:03 PM | I'd say LG he has a sense of code and honor. Being Lawful does not necessarily mean you trust the law it simply means you prefer order over chaos and any law si better then none. |
| Radijs01-19-07, 01:14 PM | A border between LG and CG. So I'd go with neutral good. |
| trickydevl66601-19-07, 10:38 PM | After reading the description... and other peoples input.. I say NG leaning towards Lawful |
