| warai_kitsune01-01-07, 11:12 PM | I have the following challenge for anyone out there who'd care to take it up. If you don't know who Drizzt Do'urden is, you've either been living under a rock for the last decade or were forced by peers to view this site and aren't really a role-player. Or you know, you could just be starting out. Anyway, according to the Forgotten Realms Sourcebook, Drizzt is a 16th-level character (1st level Barbarian, 6th level Ranger, 9th level Fighter) with a +2 level adjustment. His claim to fame is his two-weapon graceful beat-stick style. The challenge is this; you must create a character with an ECL of 18 or lower (though I doubt it will be lower) who dual-wields weapons of some sort. And he has to be cooler than Drizzt, or at the very least, more effective. You will start with the following stats: 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18. You can use any race you want, provided it has a specifically stated level adjustment of some sort. You may also equip your character with up to 440,000 GP worth of magic items, though you cannot have any one item worth more than 100,000 GP, and no more than 3 items worth more than 50,000. Let's see who gets what. |
| Allthegoodnamesweretaken01-02-07, 12:04 AM | The character optimization board would probably be better for this, the folks there could probably cook up a build that has the power of 100 Drizzts. |
| keropie01-02-07, 02:15 PM | Like some level 5 kobold randomly holding two weapons while he reaches through time and space to hit you arbitrarily hard from an arbitrary distance, perhaps? |
| Adrian_Crane01-02-07, 02:58 PM | Pun-pun wins again! Move along folks, nothing to see here... |
| LostPassWordDoesNotWork01-02-07, 06:30 PM | Level 18 commener. It's a commener with 440,000gp. You never ever ever ever ever see a commener with that much money. So not only is it cool, but it's unheard of, new, awsome, best thing since a blacksmith. You see rangers using two weapons all the time. You see the mindless building a drow ranger with two weapons all the time. Thats old, boring, lame. Watching paint dry is more fun. |

(By the way, they're spelled "commoner", "awesome", "that's", and "argumentative") |
| Devlonir01-03-07, 05:33 AM | Dual wielding rogue with improved invisibility and haste... Much better then Drizzt's unrealistic combination of levels. |
| mkill01-03-07, 01:24 PM | Actually Drizzt should be a straight ranger because he is the reason that 2nd edition ranger was fighting with two toothpicks, erm, swords in the first place. And had that animal companion. Nah, anyway, I gave up reading the novels after the first because that wuss got on my nerves. And this from a guy who ran an all-drow campaign once. I always wondered whether there is a soft drink called "Drizzt". The name would surely fit. |
| Fithero01-03-07, 09:17 PM | Some sort of halfling dual knife thrower (dont know classes)... with the right feats and prc's, he could just toss dagger after dagger at drizzt before he even got close. And Drizzt's class' reflect his character in the book. He has the barbarian level to reflect his alter-ego 'the hunter' and his fighter levels to reflect that most of the time, his training is straight combat, not tracking. All in all i recon he is a pretty cool character, and i can only laugh at people who havent read the whole series yet jump on the wagon and bag him out. Peace |

Peace wow you hit the mark. yea the book pretty much has him strait on lvls and all. i say give catibree some dragonrider levels with her bow and i dunno if the dragon counts for cr but drizzt would die if he could not touch hsi scimitars to his opponent. hey nice sig by the way i love that poem |
| the_narrator01-22-07, 01:43 AM | Off the top of my head, without any real thought put into it... Elf Scout3/ Fighter 2/ Dervish 10/ Tempest 3 This is without looking at any books so I may be off base with prereqs. High-as-sin Dex, full move and attack with skirmish, more attacks than you could shake a stick at. Yeah, that should do it pretty well. Or, Elf Wizard 18. Or, Cleric 18. Druid 18? Barbarian 8/ Frenzied Berzerker 10? Drizz't isn't exactly the most powerful or even well-optomized character. Fictional characters are always portrayed as ultra-powerful, but they don't translate so well into game terms. |
| Yokomohoyo01-23-07, 03:33 AM | Strait out Sorc or Wiz to level 18 or 16 if drow. Just time stop grab a portable hole and a bag of holding and place them next to him. Afterwards just gate to another plane and when time resumes bye bye everybody ^_^ |
| Tleilaxu_Ghola01-24-07, 06:40 PM | How many hundreds of damage would you like to deal? Wablade 16 (ECL 18) gives you 7 attacks with TWF. Mix with a weapon of speed or a potion of haste, Raging Mongoose, and stormguard warrior for: Round 1: Use dancing mongoose in conjunction with a full attack on a charge (using the pouncing charge maneuver). Gives 10 attack, trade all out for melee touch attacks dealing no damage (stormguard warrior). Think of this as the character rapidly striking several "ki" points. Think kill bill. Round 2: Full attack and use raging mongoose. Gives 12 attacks. Each attack deals +50 damage on top of whatever you normally deal, due to round 1. Minimum damage: 600. Probably could tweak that up to 800 with the right stuff. How's that for cool? I call it the 10-point exploding heart technique. |

What was that pounce feat from? |
| Elsydeon01-25-07, 08:01 PM | Any EL 18 the CO boards come up with will beat him into a pulp. You'll need more restrictions. You'll need to make it an EL lower than pun pun, or ban him from this competition which might buy you the 3 seconds it takes them to pick another monstrosity |
| syntaks01-25-07, 08:02 PM | What? In what book did you get this stuff? I need to buy it! What was that pounce feat from? Look for Tome of Battle: Book of the 9 swords ;) |
| RadicalTaoist01-25-07, 10:49 PM | Yeah, this is an optimization challenge. I'd like to see if it can be made into a development challenge fitting this board: Who can come up with a character, preferably with a cool fighting style, who gains notoriety rebelling against his mainstream racial culture and is more interesting than Drizz't? |
| Max_Graeves01-26-07, 03:37 PM | My friend and I were joking about Drizzt just the other day...I currently have a NE halfling rogue dual wielding kukris. He jokingly said why don't I just make a rip-off Drizzt character. The idea kinda snow-balled; I'm thinking of making my next character as an angst-ridden afro-toting emo halfling ranger named Frizzt Frododo. As you may have guessed, most of our campaigns are played with tongue firmly planted in cheek. |
| RadicalTaoist01-28-07, 06:33 PM | The afro is a nice touch. "Okay, let's see...Drizz't is prone to long boring monologues about his inner feelings, he has trouble with girls, and he owns a sword named Twinkle. I'm saying these three things are not unrelated." -Another poster whose name I can't remember right now. |

For gods sake the dark elf isnt gay, he sleeps with Cattie-brie at the end of the hunters blade trilogy. END SPOILER!!!! As for RadicalTaoist's request... i cant think of anything that doesnt come off as clique'. "A wandering lawful good, VoP, lizardfolk monk who goes out of his way to protect children. (Cool fighting style = balancing on his tail.... or something)" See? Peace |
| RadicalTaoist02-01-07, 02:48 AM | That Lizardfolk Monk idea is actually pretty cool. Eh, I never said he was gay. Just confused. Maybe he bats for both teams. |
| bestone02-01-07, 04:52 AM | Alright heres my build :- Copy everything about ole drizzle, then remove drow, add 2 more levels of whatever instead of the crappyness that is drow, and voila, a better version of him! |
| grasharm02-01-07, 08:36 AM | Hrmmm "cooler" char. than Drizzt. My method to win is gonna be I trump your Drizzt with my Raistlin. Heh I think stat wise, Char wise he wins but Drizzt might beat him on the book deal. Hard to say. Other than that if you want a true book char. vs book char. beatdown with Drizzt just send him against Lord Soth. No way his char. wins in a book against the original Death Knight and again char. stat wise Soth is a powerhouse. |
| Decinious02-01-07, 04:46 PM | Level 18 exp eh? So if i can use the REDUCING LEVEL ADJUSTMENTS variant from Unearthed arcana I could be level 15 exp and have paid off 5 +1 level adjust templates. I like undead so we'll go the Necropolitan route. So you get to level 3 turn Necropolitan and you are back at level 1. Loiter until you Evolve and gain your first +1 level adjust gain 3 levels loiter some more. Repeat until you have gained and bought off the Evolved Undead Template 5 times. Start with a high str race say at least +2. So 20 str from the base race, +10 str from 5 templates, +4 str from levels +2 str book, +6 str item. So 42 str, you can use 2 weaps if you want but I'd go Power attack with a Two Handed Weapon. +16 str mod, we can power attack away all your base attack, for +54 damage per hit, if you took a bab per level class. The 2 magical items so far add up to 91,000 so spend the rest on whatever. Or if you shun the Undead you can go Feral Creature, Blooded One, Mineralized Warrior(you don't need Int do you?)... Find 1 inherited Template and 4 acquired that you like and go hard :) |
| Donald_Cannith02-04-07, 01:38 AM | I insert that the coolest possible character ever is neither Drizzt nor Raistlin. It is everybody's favorite eberron character. Pierce the warforged flail-wielding, sharp-shooting Scout. After reading The dreaming dark trilogy, Pierce strikes me as the coolest character of al time and hed run circles all around Drizzt and kick his candy ass. I seepierce as a level 18 scout with a few bow feats and combat expertise and improved disar mand improved trip. All hed have to do isk nock dirzzt down once and it's game over. |
| Seir02-08-07, 02:26 PM | My TWF tiefling Dervish would own him. 2 Fighter/3 Swashbuckler/10 Dervish/2 Tempest. This particular character is the LA +1 tiefling. She dual wields special daggers that are made to look like decorative hair pins and she wears a kimono. It's really the only TWF character I have. I'm not sure on items at the moment cause she had beefed up NPC stuff. She was a slave trader who collected fey and enjoyed seducing people and talking them into capturing things to add to her collection. One of the PCs in my campaign fell into her trap. =) Other than that, if I spent time on it I could make something better. Edit: Just remembered she did have some hooker-esque leather boots that granted her haste. |
