I am very new to the concept of developing a storyline for a character. I am also new to forgotten realms and do not know any of the place names.

Please can someone help me develop a story for my paladin. He is going to be a primarily mounted warrior who worships Tyr.

I need some background info for him. What order would he be fighting for, etc.

The current adventure is helping a purple dragon knight rid a town of a dark wizard and his followers. I need a reason why the paladin would be their anyway. I suppose it is just all paladins love a quest for good.

A couple of question to help flesh out your character:

Where is he from?

Does he have a family?

How did he comes to worship Tyr?

A best friend with him?

As for the specific situation you're talking about, perhaps the purple dragon is a cousin, a family friend or perhaps even an uncle.

It could also be a test from his order to see if he is able to shoulder the responsibility that comes with being the incarnate of the will of Tyr on Faźrun.

It's just a start and I hope I helped.

The most common path to paladinhood is dead parents, a stranded child, and a paladin rescuing or adopting the child. Then the child becomes a paladin just like his hero.

If you want a sample story for any inspiration it might provide, please feel free to use mine. This particular entry covers the first half of his pre-game history (character started at 3rd since it was an already established group) or up to his point of receiving the calling to become a paladin.

Note - I include this not because I think it is a paragon of fiction, but because it is a background story for a paladin and might prove helpful.

I'm not a Realms player myself, but some of the following sites may prove helpful (found them by searching for "Forgotten Realms" on Google):
