In an upcomming game I'm going to be playing a Paladin/Binder and going into the Knight of the Sacred Seal PrC. I was looking for ideas on how to roleplay this character. Tome of Magic states that the vestige of Tenebrous is a bitter sentience, and the influence notes that you are apathetic and reluctant to act, feeling abandoned.

I could imagine the character discovering Tenebrous as a Vestige and feeling drawn to the vestige's loneliness, seeking to show Tenebrous a better way by example. Truly, the paladin shares the sense of abandonment that Tenebrous feels and seeks to help orphans and those who have lost their way to find the way again, wether to their families or a good orphanage. A somewhat forlorn champion of all those who are forgotten and left behind.

In either case, there's no telling just what being a Vestige has done to what was once Tenebrous's sanity. Any ideas for how Tenebrous might feel and how the two characters could interact would be wonderful! Also, ideas for how the character could continue to be a paladin in his presumedly futile quest to 'redeem' Tenebrous?

Except for the fact that I have no idea what a "Tenebrous" is, it sounds like a really fun character to play. Truly, a well played Paladin has just graced us with his presence.

Well I guess you could be a paladin of Tenebrous, because he stillm has some divine essence. Though i have to ask, are you being a paladin of tyranny, or a normal paladin? Maybe Tenebrous himself isnt evil like Orcus, but i would never classify him as good.

To make it short, Tenebrous is the form assumed by the demon prince Orcus when he was usurped. He actually became a god as Tenebrous, however, he forewent godhood in order to become Orcus once more. He rules over Thanatos, his layer of the Abyss, as the demon prince of the undead, and the demon prince most often worshiped as a god.

That's precisely why I like the idea (unless he is really talking about a PoT, because I hate these guys): A LG paladin trying to redeem Tenebrous? Perhaps having no idea who Tenebrous really is? Yeah man! That would make for so many RP opportunities, letting him find out who is "god" really is, having him persecuted by his fellow paladins...I see a great character concept springing into being. That would work especially well in a setting where paladins can be deceived but still keep their powers, such as Eberron. I actually don't think Tenebrous would care so much for his "worshiper", but he might be interested in playing games with a paladin. A paladin, completely cloaked in black, often depressed (because of Tenebrous' influence), shrouded in magical darkness, hunted by his peers, deceived by his patron...Oh, I positively love this idea! The first time playing a paladin would seem worthwhile! What might happen if he discovers the nature of his god? Clearly, he will be unable to stay a paladin. Will he remain loyal to him, maybe becoming a blackguard? Will he swear vengeance, maybe becoming a corrupt avenger? The idea is just awesome. I am sorry not to have contributed many ideas, but I definitely know what I will play in our next campaign!
Hope it helps nevertheless.

I would play him as a paladin who doesn't really need a patron God, but who is nevertheless following a few LG, NG or LN gods as models. After loosing his whole company in a campaign, he found himself in a foreign country, where he suddenly finds the vestiges of Tenebrous. Both feel equally lost and lonely, so they begin to chat. But they both feel they must keep a few things for themselves...

So instead of having a CE god who grant spells to a LG paladin, which is let's say, incredible, you would have a LG paladin who receive advices from a CE former god who has nothing better to do...

Well, Tenebrous is NE, other than Orcus, who is CE (though they are the same person); it's in ToM. But it doesn't really matter.
Incredible? I think Tenebrous could indeed be interested in corrupting a mortal, especially a paladin. And the paladin would just be a fool. But I like the idea with the foreign country.
