I made a very unique paladin in a campaign with some friends. I had everything worked out, standing at level 3, I tend to crush my opposition in an easy blow.

I need help though. My DM asked me tonight, "So, thought of what to do with that Magic mount in two levels?" And I haven't. Why? Because of the unique Paladin that I am.

I'm a centaur. So uhm.....What precisely does a Centaur Paladin, With his crushing devestation, DO for a Mount, as a large creature with Hooves?

If anyone knows the game rules on that, or if there -are- any to cover that kind of situation, let me know (Cuz somehow, a celestial Pack Mule doesn't seem that befitting).

Owell :P

I think even your patron god is shrugging his/her shoulders at this one.

Perahps a dragon mount of some sort?

Your mount will have to be huge (since your large) and their arnt that many creatures of huge size that really mesh well with paladins.

Aside from that, perhaps for the duration of the summons, you yourself gain the benifits of the mounts speed and endurance.

You've really put yourself in a pickle here :)

Try the varient from Dungeonscape (which summons the spirits).

:thinks:
Ask your DM if you can trade your Celestial Mount class feature for something akin to a favored soul's wings?
:thinks:
Don't really see a quadraped riding even a size huge to tell the truth. What about asking for a griffon or the like and using it as a companion rather then mount?
:thinks:
Something with burrowing that leaves a trail like an umber hulk?

Seconded. I can't think of anything but a wife (or concubine, depending on your religion). Either that or a pack mule... just get the spirits. It's in the WotC dungeonscape excerpt on the main site.

What I would suggest to my player would be maybe think of a mount more as companion or familiar. You will not get the familiar bonuses but I might let you have your mount give you a moral bonus during combat. Just a thought.

PHB2 paladin variant class feature: Smiting charge. It's like it was MADE with your character in mind.

Thanks for all the ideas and help. I'll check out the PHB2 for that smiting charge, and will look at the dungeonscape too. Though my DM's end suggestion was as Fithero said. Giving me the benefits. Though that is kind of broken. Summon my mount and get the abilities, and then never dismiss him.

All good suggestions. Thank you everyone.

Well, if you're feeling guilty about balance, you could just treat it like an enhancement spell of some kind. Gain the benefits for two hours + your paladin level... and then after that it's gone and you're back to normal. :P

Because of your LA and racial HD, your mount will be a bit behind the power curve, so it wouldn't be extremely helpful as a pet... Plus, it'll be in significant danger. As a Conjuration (calling) effect, if the mount dies while in your service, it dies for real (and you'll get really bummed out about it and take penalties on your attack rolls for a month). So, I'd suggest against doing what our paladin does sometimes: summon the horse, and let it fight on its own.

If you create a variant that lets you imbue yourself with bonuses instead of summoning a mount, I'd recommend against including bonus HD with that (or, if you do gain bonus HD, the boost shouldn't last two hours/level.)

For a quirky option, you could summon a rider, maybe an Aasimar fighter or something.

Again, thanks for all the suggestions. That Aasimar fighter idea could be entertaining, especially with my style of play.....Ever seen a character argue with himself? I have. Granted that is a different game system.

Smiting charge looked pretty good. The spirit did too. I'll probably debate over both options for a long time, before flipping a coin and then picking the opposite.

Hey... my DM wont let us be monsterous creatures. Hows your climb, by the way?

I love that rider idea

My skill checks are horrid as a paladin. Nothing in climb, though with my strength, toss me a rope and I'll hand over hand myself up LOL

Haha the summoned rider gets my vote. Talk about unique. And then you can hear him complain about getting summoned every day when he has a wife and kids back home in Celestia. His wife could always be complaining about it. Makes him sleep on the couch when he gets home to rest for the measly few hours per day that he isn't serving your centaur. That or she makes him mow the celestial lawn, call the celestial plumber, and fix the leaky celestial roof that the celestial rain pours through right above their celestial dining room table.

^^ the idea of summoning a rider is brilliant.

although for a more serious alternative, I'm going to recommend, like many other posters did, the charging smite alternative class feature.
