| Xeviat-DM07-28-03, 04:25 PM | My character comes from a world that is ruled by dragon gods. Currently the Red Dragon god is the most powerful in the world, so he is the ruler. My paladin character follows the Gold Dragon god, and will soon take up the Dragon Disciple PrC. I want to take leadership at level 6. I don't know what I want as a cohort. I could wait till level 14 to get a wyrmling gold dragon (who's medium size, but can assume the form of a medium-size humanoid and be my "squire"), or I could get a lantern Archon earlier. The lantern Archon doesn't have a level adjustment though, so I don't know what it would qualify as for a cohort. Either way, what do you think would be more fitting? |

Having a Gold Dragon as a cohort would be somewhat difficult for treasure and all, as well. Remember that Dragons looove those gems, especially Gold ones. And it's also easier to find an Archon than a Gold Dragon. Maybe not in your world, but at least in mine. Good health; and jolly good luck. |

A Hound Archon is +5, or ECL 11 (depending on whether you want to use its Hit Dice or not). I'd guess a Lantern Archon is probably about the same, give its spell-like abilities, probably right at +4 level adjustment, since the only differences are skills, and lacking scent and altnernate form, although the Lantern Archon picks up Fly 60 ft. (perfect), which isn't bad at all. Then you have to factor in the weak ability scores (Str 1), which should level out at +4. Starting ECL would be 4, dropping the first Hit Die in exchange for a class level. Another good source for cohorts by alignment it reading through the Summon Monster spell. It's all outsiders, but some are pretty cool. Don't overlook simply tacking on the Celestial template to another creature. Think about how cool a Celestial Gold Dragon could be, wyrmling or not. Or even a normal character that's got the Half-Dragon template. Ooh! even better, see if you can gain a divine blessing to your mount and make that your cohort; you could get a Half-Dragon Celestial Warhorse! Woot! Well, I think its cool anyway :D. |
| ThorvaldHafgrimsson07-30-03, 02:47 AM | HOw about a "Celestial" Creature, one with a template. Or even an Aasimar Cleric or something. My only real advice, make sure not to make the DM's life to hard or... |
